Wicomico County Executive serves as delegate at Republican National Convention

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – The Republican National Convention (RNC) is in full swing, and wraps up on Thursday.

Local leaders are some of those out in Milwaukee, Wis., representing the red and casting votes. Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano is one serving as a delegate from Maryland’s 1st congressional district.

“It’s a very cool experience,” Giordano told WMDT. “I’m really happy that I came, and there are so many people who have been sending love from home.”

Giordano tells WMDT that the meeting of minds in the midwest has stirred up a lot of talk about issues like public safety, the economy, and border security.

However, they’re not just there to talk.

Delegates attend the convention in order to confirm their state’s nomination for the November election ticket. Most of the states are tied to backing former president Donald Trump, as they are required to vote in line with the outcome of their state’s primary or caucus.

“I don’t care if you’re coming for the RNC, or if people are going out for the Democratic National Convention, it’s just such a cool experience to be able to be a part of that,” Giordano said. “I know that as the [Wicomico County] Executive, I’m representing all people. In this case, I’m representing the Republicans from the Eastern Shore, and the message is unity.”

The Democratic National Convention will take place from August 19th to the 22nd in Chicago, Ill.
