Suspect flees after crashing into Georgetown Circle

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Around 2am Saturday morning, a car crashed into the interior portion of the Georgetown Circle.

On scene, police discovered an unoccupied Nissan Pathfinder that had come to rest within the circle after striking multiple objects.

Early investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling on West Market Street when it continued straight instead of stopping at the circle. The Nissan continued on its path, hitting the curb before striking a street sign, camera post, and police monument, and ultimately coming to a stop close to the fountain.

Surveillance video showed a male fleeing the scene. The Georgetown Police Department is actively investigating the incident and working on identifying the operator of the vehicle.

 

UPDATE 7/14 :

Sunday, The Georgetown Police Department confirmed they had identified and arrested the man suspected to be the driver of the vehicle.

He was identified as 25-year-old Mario Ramirez-Ramirez, local to Georgetown.

Ramirez-Ramirez was charged with: Criminal Mischief over $5000, Leaving the Scene of a property damage collision, Failure to provide information, Careless Driving, and Malicious Mischief by motor vehicle.

He was arraigned and released on $13,100 unsecured bond.
