LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - We now know the name of the Lexington detective shot in the line of duty.

A federal affidavit identifies the officer as Detective Nick Music.

The Lexington Police Department says Detective Music has served with the department for eight years.

It comes as one of the suspects arrested in the shooting is now facing a federal charge.

According to the document, Detective Music was doing surveillance of Daquis Sharp. It says Sharp is suspected of being involved in Lexington homicides and other gun-related crimes.

The affidavit states Music, along with other Lexington police detectives, were observing Sharp’s grandmother’s home on Royal Avenue

The affidavit says Sharp and two other suspects, Jatiece Parks and Zalan Dulin, all walked out of the home. Detectives lost sight of the suspects. That’s when shots were fired.

Music, who was in an unmarked car, was able to get out, take cover and fire back.

Investigators say Music’s car had 30 bullet holes. They found 43 shell casings in the area from three different guns.

Through the investigation, authorities also found more guns in the grandmother’s home. They said those did not belong to her.

Sharp is now facing a federal gun charge.

All three suspects are due back in court next on March 11. They’re charged with attempted murder of a police officer along with other charges. They are all being held on million-dollar bonds.
