- Session title: Wikidata and AI for Social Good
- Format: presentation + discussion (50min)
- Speaker(s) or facilitator(s): Houcemeddine Turki, Wikimedia Tunisia and Data Engineering and Semantics Research Unit, Tunisia
- Short description of the session: At the information age, data is needed to drive intelligent systems in various domains, including healthcare, public administration and education. In underdeveloped countries where research funding is limited, the creation of data is difficult and even impossible. Here, Wikidata can be an interesting resource for computer scientists in developing countries. It is easily findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable. It is multilingual and has a broad coverage of human knowledge in a fully structured format. Thanks to its API and its SPARQL Endpoint, Wikidata can be intuitively reused to drive computer programs. In this presentation, I explain how Wikidata can be reused to drive knowledge-based systems through the demonstration of several real-world applications of Wikidata in the context of knowledge engineering, natural language processing, cultural heritage, and biomedical informatics and I emphasize the significance of the reuse of Wikidata to develop computer science research in the Global South, particularly Africa, within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals.

- ✅ Scheduled! Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 11:29, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Format: workshop (50min)
- Speaker(s) or facilitator(s): Jose Emilio Labra Goya, Seyed1411, Sulhasan, Andrawaag
- Short description of the session: Often Wikidata is too big to handle. Through a sequence of biohackathons we have been reviewing methods to extract subsets from Wikidata to facilitate downstream reuse. We have identified a set of tools and would like to report back on our intermediate results. We will address the different applicable file formats. Natively, Wikidata data is stored in json, but it is also available as RDF through for example the Wikidata Query Service. Different subsetting methods use either or both of those formats as input and output. We will also address the way how to define the subset. This can be a JSON file or a Shape Expression.
Audience: Open to anybody, but it is helpful to have a basic understanding of wikidata daily dumps and the Wikidata Query Service for context why we are interested in this topic.

- Session title: Wikidata Notability and Reuse
- Format: lightning talk (5min)
- Speaker(s) or facilitator(s): Mike Peel
- Short description of the session: Reusers of Wikidata rely on Wikidata information continuing to be available in the long term, but this may not be guaranteed by the current notability requirements. What if the content you're using is unexpectedly deleted? This lightning talk will describe the issue with notability and propose a solution, connected to ongoing discussion about the notability requirements on-wiki. Draft slides
- Audience: This is a bit specialist, but I'll try to briefly cover the relevant background material.
- Suggestions of time and date: March 14 session?
