Motivation

[edit]

There are 110 people (probably more in the future) in this database : resistance fighters, collaborationists, deportees... Uchroniste 40 (talk) 12:25, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Weak support, maybe not the most useful but still a good database (I especially like the bibliography at the end). @Uchroniste 40: do you know how many of these 110 person we already have on Wikidata? Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 13:20, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, but, if the property is added, I will create their Item, based on this database, other (like Maitron) and a biographical dictionnary I own. So it will be used in all 110 items, but I have no idea how many already exist. Uchroniste 40 (talk) 13:29, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment Though I approve the usage and all 110 items may be sourced to this website, the total of 110 is simply too small a number to warrant its own property. Just create a project page in wikidataspace and link to it with on focus list of Wikimedia project (P5008). I do this for my own projects such as WikiProject Provenance (Q98801351). The advantage of using this technique is it enables you to discover whether any of your items get picked up by other projects. See e.g. Mary Emma Stillman Harkness (Q62108876), for whom I just added my own project and see that she was already picked up by another project. When the website has published over 1000 bios, then it's more of a candidate for a property. Jane023 (talk) 11:48, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Uchroniste 40, could you please clarify the comments above by @Jane023. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 04:14, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jane023 hello. I don't see any rule stating that a property should have at least 1000 bios to be included. Moreover, I don't see where is the problem for a 11O bio property. It will be useful for the people working on these items and it won't cause ani inconveniance for other people. I understand you don't find it useful, but for me and other people working on WW2 and Landes, it is. Sincerely. Uchroniste 40 (talk) 10:04, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK I am surprised o discover there is no bottom limit to the number of possible items for a property and 100 has been used to before. I guess I don't see the advantages of such a small number myself, but I guess there is no rule, so you are correct. I find using projects easier because I can track progress on the Wikidata page and put various queries and listeria lists on such pages so I can pick up where I left off. So knowing properties with the same number or less items were implemented and that a property would be easier to use for me and other people, could you reconsider your vote ? Uchroniste 40 (talk) 10:41, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry forgot to change this. I don't want to be a block on a someone's workflow, so I no longer oppose, but of course I don't support. If want such a small number of items, just add them using Openrefine of any spreadsheet program that enables you to upload through quick statements. I guess I just don't approve of using properties for something so small. Jane023 (talk) 08:28, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
