battery life
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Computing
Description | the length of time after a full charge that a device can continue to work under normal use before it needs its battery to be recharged |
---|---|
Data type | Quantity |
Example 1 | Apple Watch Ultra 2 (Q122442081) → 36 hour (Q25235) |
Example 2 | iPhone 15 (Q121992935) → 11 hour (Q25235) |
Example 3 | Tesla Model 3 (Q23663332) → 7 hour (Q25235) |

Motivation
[edit]In these days where everything is becoming electric (cars, etc.) and where we have batteries everywhere (phones, laptops, etc.), it seemed necessary for Wikidata to have a battery life property.
PS: it's my first time proposing a property and I'm not that familiar with Wikidata, so I hope I did everything right... La coince (talk) 20:58, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Support This seems reasonable and I can't think of another property that would cover this. You might want to consider what qualifiers might be appropriate (for example for the car, presumably speed driven is a factor?) ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:17, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
- Support But I know that there are different metrics for battery life, like "hours of video playback", which Apple commonly advertises (https://www.apple.com/iphone-15/). These should be considered first. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 16:58, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Wd-Ryan: Agreed, Apple uses the terms "XX hours of normal use", which it defines in small print, so I have fine tuned the definition to reflect that ("under normal use"). La coince (talk) 12:45, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- Conditional support For these numbers to be meaningful, we would need some kind of authoritative source. A computer's battery life can range widely depending on power saving settings and how the device is used. Dexxor (talk) 17:45, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
