Qid as labels

Hello, please stop adding labels like these: [1][2]. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 10:13, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! My bad ליד נהרות בבל (talk) 15:01, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hebrew

Hello ליד נהרות בבל,

Your user name is in Hebrew but the language babel tells that you don't speak Hebrew. So what is your connection to Hebrew? Just curiosity. Geagea (talk) 09:20, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I did take some Biblical Hebrew when I was in grad school, but really the username really comes from my watching this video, which bizarrely drove me to tears. It's the first three words of Psalm 137 (Translation of the first line: By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down and wept when we remembered Zion.) I'm not religious or even Christian or Jewish, so yeah I guess it is a bizarre choice. ליד נהרות בבל (talk) 12:02, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks . Anyway the correct wording is "על נהרות בבל" but your choice of words is fine to me. Thanks for your explanation. Geagea (talk) 12:25, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, I know about the correct wording :) It's actually an inside joke based on a mistake on my Bible Hebrew midterm. You're very welcome! :) ליד נהרות בבל (talk) 15:06, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User page

Hi Plaça de Maig!

Your name came up a lot on my watchlist today, so I took a curious look at your userpage. And I really like your introduction :) And I hope you won't think it rude of me when I ask you: Should it say "Please let me know when I do" instead of "... if I am"?

Best, Jonathan Groß (talk) 20:31, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Jonathan Groß:! Thanks for the really kind note! I really appreciate it. As to your question, "when I do" and "if I do", they are a little different.
"If I do" indicates the possibility of making mistakes, with probability of mistake ranging from 0% to 100%. Meaning in English, this corresponds to both low probability/unlikely and high probably/likely situations.
In German, you have the luxury of being more specific: the high probability "Wenn Anna da ist, kann sie gern mitkommen" versus the lower probability "Wenn Anna da wäre, könnte sie gern mitkommen"
Switching back to English, using "when I do" basically says that the probability of my making a mistake is 100% -- I could have said the same thing with "if I do" (probability between 0-100%) but that doesn't convey any information on the likelihood.
Anyway it's my attempt at self-deprecating humor; in 99.9% of situations, using "if I do" sounds more natural Plaça de Maig (talk) 02:36, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your hilarious and educational answer! I always thought that "if" and "when" were like "falls" and "wenn" in German; "wenn das Schiff sinkt" (will definitely happen) vs. "falls das Schiff sinkt" (could happen, but no necessarily so).
And, "am" still needs to be switched to "do" on your user page, I think.
Best, Jonathan Groß (talk) 19:40, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
D @Jonathan Groß: Sure, will change it for you haha
Plaça de Maig (talk) 05:43, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I feel important now. No homework for you then! Jonathan Groß (talk) 05:59, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Aliases

Hello, please stop adding superfluous aliases. E.g. this alias is exactly equal to the label and therefore superfluous. bdijkstra (overleg) 20:03, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @bdijkstra: thanks for your message. I was adding them just in case the label gets changed, which actually happens fairly frequently. If this is a problem for Wikidata, I'm happy to stop. Plaça de Maig (talk) 20:20, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also from me, please stop to add aliases for eventually to be changed lemmata. It makes a lot of work to redo all these additions. Other users were already blocked for such a behaviour, so please be more careful. --Florentyna (talk) 20:53, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Florentyna Hi, thanks for the comment. I didn't understand the lemmata comment you made. Could you please clarify? Thanks Plaça de Maig (talk) 23:10, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Lemmata means how the item is named, means what is the label in a language. You very often added an alias same to the label, for instance to Q27906030 with label Andrea Somrau you added the alias Andrea Somrau - this makes no sense, because both are 100% identical. When there is a special character in the label, one can do this - means add to Joaquín Berríos the alias Joaquin Berrios. (not the best example, because Wikidata can work in the meantime with different forms of the letter i). --Florentyna (talk) 17:34, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed some users don't pay attention when editing, but what you're doing doesn't help the community to become more aware and better educated. If your use of aliases were considered to be a good practice, then Help:Aliases would reflect that, but it doesn't, so please stop. bdijkstra (overleg) 08:58, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

André Azoulay

The name of André Azoulay is André Azoulay, not Emnuel Azulay. I have reverted the modification by https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q2847186&diff=next&oldid=1995815428 ... Wisdood (talk) 09:20, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Revert on Marivaux

Hi,

I guess it as not intentional but your edit on Marivaux item (Special:Diff/2027330422) is the propagation of a vandalism on the French label. Also, one day (hopefully soon) we will have a multilingual label (uner the lang code "mul") so this kind of duplication will not be needed anymore.

Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 15:36, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @VIGNERON:, my bad. I wasn't trying to spread the vandalism -- thank you for the revert and the heads up! Plaça de Maig (talk) 19:11, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, it happens, I just wanted to warn you. Keep up the good work. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 19:24, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Birthdays in descriptions

Recently you added a lot of birthdays in descriptions like for instance Avustralyalı badminton oyuncusu (d. 1940) for June Walsh. Be careful, often the birthdays have the qualifier sourcing circumstances: circa, i.e. the exact birth year is not known. So the (d. 1940) makes no sense. Florentyna (talk) 06:20, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Florentyna:, thank you so much for the heads up! I will be more careful; and try to go back and fix some of the unsubstantiated statements. Plaça de Maig (talk) 19:09, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Quickstatement

Selamlar Plaça de Maig, quickstatement kullanarak Türkçe Vikipedi açıklamalar kısmını düzenlediğinizi gördüm. Aracı biraz inceledim, yardım sayfasına baktım fakat nasıl kullanılacağını çözemedim. Bu konu hakkında bana yardımcı olabilirseniz Türkçe açıklamalar kısmına yardımcı olmak isterim. İyi çalışmalar. Wooze 18:57, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Merhaba @Wooze:!
Uygun bir an denk getirebiliriz diye düşünüyorum. İyi çalışmalar :) Wooze 19:23, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki for Minorities (WfMin)

Hi! It's always interesting for me to see such cultural diversity in a single profile. Since October 2023 we have been developing an initiative to make minorities visible within the wiki movement and I think that in some way it could be of interest to you and perhaps you can personally identify with it. We still have a lot to do, but the motivation of a group started by volunteers from various countries around the world is enough. I cordially invite you to take a look at Wiki for Minorities on Meta and give me some feedback about it, if you wish. We have a very innovative project on diasporas that we are very interested in developing and so far, no one residing in the United States has expressed interest among the volunteers to be part. Thank you and greetings from Santiago de Chile. Igallards7 (talk) 17:52, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
