King Charles III sacristy

King Charles III sacristy

We are constructing a new building in order to transform the welcome we offer our visitors. Constructed on the footprint of Henry III's 13th-cenutry Great Sacristy, the building will house state-of-the-art welcome and security facilities and reflect the history of the original Sacristy by freeing the Abbey for worship.

The project will also see visitors following in the footsteps of royalty by entering the Abbey through the Great West Door. From here, they will enjoy magnificent views of the full length of the church and be inspired by the Abbey as it really is: a House of God and a House of Kings.

Conservation & Collections

As a working church and major tourist destination with over 1.3m visitors a year, the Abbey must ensure its fabric and its collections are well cared for and protected. From the Abbey church itself to our collections of paintings, books and rare objects, their condition and long-term longevity are critical. Help us protect the Abbey for future generations.
