ONEONTA (WBNG) -- New York State Police in Oneonta discovered that an unknown suspect stole the identity of a property owner in Otsego County and attempted to sell their property.

The suspect forged a New Jersey driver’s license and attempted to sell the property through a local realtor.

The property had additional owners on the deed which helped stall the sale.

The realtor then learned that the actual property owner had no intention of selling the property and they were being impersonated.

No sale was made and no money was lost.

New York State Police are asking anyone who is a victim or knows if anyone is involved in the scam, to contact their nearest law enforcement agency.
