A utilitarian approach to dressing is nothing new, and back in the nineties it was a key part of Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher's signature look. With his devil-may-care attitude, the Britpop star's influence went beyond the music, and his distinctive personal style filtered down to the wardrobes of legions of fans. You can credit him with elevating the anorak from trainspotting mundanity to the realm of streetwear cool, and he no doubt played a part in the nineties Adidas Sambas revival too. It also doesn't hurt that the Manchester-born musician accessorized the whole thing with a swaggering bad boy attitude. His anorak of choice? A color-block Penfield jacket that became an instant hit with city-dwellers across the globe, and is being reissued in the run up to the label's 40th anniversary this year. Consider it a cool look whether you're in the band or not.
Penfield Pac Jac jacket, $145; available starting February 27 at penfield.com.
