Over the past few months, Wonderskin’s lip stain has been staging a full takeover of my feed. It’s cropped up on Tiktok, where every other video seems to star a pout coloured in its signature clickbait blue, and made appearances on the lips of Instagram’s biggest beauty influencers, too.
I’m not typically one to vie for a product based on popularity alone, but the Wonderskin Blading Lip Stain Masque has become hard to avoid – and even harder to resist. The videos I scroll through only reinforce its appeal: you swipe it on, peel it off and have a lasts-all-day lip colour in a matter of seconds.

Having launched in 2020, it’s nothing new. But the concept – and the easy blurred lip it creates – is catching on. Since Wonderskin’s debut, several buzzy launches (Sacheu and Fenty Beauty, to name a few) have landed in the lip stain category, but propelled by the novelty of its eye-catching, iridescent formula, the Wonderskin stain is the one that fans keep flocking to. A viral sensation well on its way to becoming a cult buy, it is officially the number one bestselling lip stain on Amazon with over 800 orders placed this month alone. So, the Wonderskin lip stain has successfully piqued my interest, but does it live up to the hype? To find out, I put it to the test.

The instructions call for one to three coats of the stain to be applied on clean lips. On my first attempt, I learn that good prep is essential for an even, non-patchy finish, as the fast-acting formula can cling to dryer patches. Happily, Wonderskin offers a one-stop solution in the form of its nourishing lip scrub pencil, which primes your pout for the stain using shea butter and gently exfoliating sugar granules.
Once your lips are well-prepped, it’s as simple as swiping the liquid on. You can layer on several coats for a look that’s as subtle or pigmented as you prefer – just work quickly, as the formula will pill once dry. I focus the product on the centre of my lips and just above the vermillion border, using more on the perimeter for a defined lip liner effect. It dries within seconds, and though you can peel the blue layer off to reveal the stain’s true colour, I opt for a wet wipe to allow for clean and precise removal.
Should you want a glossy finish, the lip stain kit comes with a gloss topper that adds shine without compromising your carefully applied colour. Though I prefer the blurred look, I try the gloss on for the sake of this review, discovering it’s a rich formula that immediately delivers a high-impact glaze. When I wipe it off, I’m pleasantly surprised to find the stain is still intact.
Complete in under a minute, the application process gives a result natural enough to look like my own lips, but with a healthy, just-bitten flush that stays the course. I check after lunch, dinner, and every beverage I drink during the day to discover it has remained faithfully in place, leaving zero transfer on cups or cutlery. Best of all, the budge-proof formula supersedes my usual lip liner with its comfortable and weightless finish – the type that feels as if I’ve got no products on my pout.
I’ll admit that I was initially quick to dismiss Wonderskin’s lip stain as another trending gimmick. The alarmingly bright blue formula seemed, in my mind, purely a ploy to turn heads. But the magic of that shapeshifting shade is in its finish: a watercolour layer that revives lifeless lips and leaves them filter smooth.
With near-permanent staying power, no touch-ups are needed, making it game-changing for the person (read: me) who is perennially reapplying their lip combo. It seems the Wonderskin lip stain is dominating the internet for good reason, and to summarise, it has (quite literally) made a good impression on me. A must-try.
