Local police had some questions for Queen Elizabeth's grandson, Peter Phillips, when they found him hundreds of miles away from home over the weekend.

According to The Sun, the 43-year-old son of Princess Anne had the cops called on him by angry locals after he was spotted outside the home of an unidentified woman in St. Cyrus, Scotland, over 400 miles from his family's home, Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, England. According to sources who spoke with the outlet, the royal's Range Rover was seen parked outside the woman's home on Saturday. “It seems wrong he has travelled here from England, whatever the circumstances,” they said. “Scotland is closed and if you flew here you would have to quarantine for ten days.” Scotland currently only permits travel for “essential purposes,” while England is under a strict stay-at-home order.

A Scottish police spokesperson confirmed that, “At around 6.40pm on Friday 26 March, 2021, police received a report of a potential breach of coronavirus regulations at a property in St Cyrus, Montrose. Officers attended, spoke to the occupants and found no breaches of legislation.” A spokesperson for the royal also explained that his travel was essential as it was for Phillips's company, XL Medical, which provides rapid COVID-19 testing. They added, “We do not comment on details or circumstances of Mr Phillips’s accommodation when traveling on business.” The woman he was visiting was reportedly a former classmate and friend of Phillips's sister, Zara.

Phillips and his wife Autumn announced their separation in February 2020, which a family friend told Vanity Fair at the time was “something of a conscious uncoupling.” That could explain why, despite the split, the pair were reportedly living together at Gatcombe Park earlier this year so as to better co-parent their two school-aged daughters, Savannah and Isla, during the pandemic.
