The christening has commenced! Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, a little over two months old, was christened this afternoon, in her first public appearance since emerging from the hospital the day she was born. The christening took place at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Sandringham, which is the same place Princess Diana was christened. Present at the ceremony were Charlotte’s parents (two people you may have heard of who go by William and Kate), and brother George (who wore an outfit very similar to the one his father William wore when he was meeting Prince Harry for the first time). Additionally, aunt Pippa, uncle James, and grandparents Charles, Camilla, Michael and Carole were in attendance, as were the Queen and all five newly-named godparents.

Kate, William, George and Charlotte made their entrance to the church in glamorous fashion, with Kate (in a cream Alexander McQueen ensemble) pushing a pram, with Charlotte (wearing a replica of the historic christening gown first worn by Queen Victoria’s daughter in 1841) inside, visible to the fans who had lined up to watch.

The christening featured two hymns, “Praise to the Lord, The Almighty,” and “Come Down, O Love Divine.” Additionally, James Meade—William’s classmate from Eton, who was named one of Charlotte’s godparents this morning—read a passage from Matthew 18, verses 1-5.

After the service, the group will be returning to the Queen’s Sandringham home for official portraits (to be taken by Mario Testino) and an afternoon tea, where slices from a tier of William and Kate’s wedding cake will be served.
