About Vale in Oman

Building a positive legacy in Oman

In 2007, Vale embarked on a journey to establish a prominent foothold in Oman. Over the years, we have diligently pursued opportunities that not only contribute to our own growth but also create a positive impact on the local community. Our endeavors have focused on generating employment opportunities, nurturing local talent, fostering economic diversification, and strengthening the country's supply chain.

Leading the way to Net Zero

Vale has brought green briquette technology to Oman. This technology is a key component of our plan to decrease emissions and contribute to a greener future. By 2035, Vale aims to reduce Scope 3 emissions, across our entire value chain, by 15%, which is equivalent to a reduction of 90 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2). Currently, 98% of Vale's emissions come from our suppliers and clients, emphasizing the importance of working together to achieve sustainability goals.

What do we do?

Production

We have the capacity to produce 9 million metric tons of pellets per year, following an investment of USD 2 billion, which began in 2012. The plant has an innovative environmental management system, involving control and monitoring measures, all in accordance with local laws and regulations.

Distribution

Oman has a strategic location, as it is geographically close to Europe, Asia and Africa, and its deep-water port can accommodate our large vessels. As a result, we are able to distribute 40 million tons of iron ore and pellets each year.

Development of the local supply chain

We value our relations with local suppliers through engineering, human resources and maintenance service contracts, in order to encourage new revenue streams for the supply chain around our complex in Sohar, building long-term relationships.

Driving positive change in the communities where we operate

In addition to the intense investment in local talent, Vale in Oman also invests and encourages projects outside company sites, in order to drive its purpose of improving life and transforming the future. Together.

These initiatives include promotion of volunteering, investment in educational projects in multiple areas, incentives for sports, the implementation of sustainable alternatives to improve the quality of life in the surrounding communities, and dust reduction systems installed in the complex.
