Friday's forecast: Cool north-central, soggy Southwest

Doyle Rice

A cool day is on tap for the north-central U.S. Friday while showers and storms pelt the Southwest.

West: Showers and thunderstorms are forecast Friday from Southern California to the Great Basin and parts of the southern and central Rockies. The Northwest will be clear and dry.

Central, eastern U.S.: A cold front will slide through the north-central and eastern U.S. Friday, ushering in the coldest air of the season. High temperatures will only be in the 40s and 50s from the northern Plains to northern New England.

Rain and snow showers will accompany the cold air in the Great Lakes and Northeast. Showers and storms are also likely in southern Florida.
