The Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to a free agent contract with veteran shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. on Tuesday, rounding out their roster and likely finding their starting shooting guard in the process.

Trent's agency announced the agreement on ESPN. It will be a one-year, veteran minimum deal for $2.6 million. It is the only contract the Bucks could offer as a team operating under second apron restrictions.

Trent, 25, was a second-round pick of the Sacramento Kings in 2018 but was immediately traded to Portland, where he became a teammate of current Bucks point guard Damian Lillard.

Toronto Raptors guard Gary Trent Jr. (33) scores during the first half of their game against the Milwaukee Bucks Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wis.

Trent played just under three seasons with the Trail Blazers before being dealt to Toronto during the 2020-21 season.

In his six-year career he is a 38% shooter from behind the three-point line. He averaged a career-best 18.3 points per game for Toronto in 2021-22, when he started 69 of the 70 games he played.

Since becoming a regular in 2020-21, Trent has averaged 16.2 points per game while shooting 38% from the three-point line.

Trent has appeared in 11 postseason games in Portland and Toronto, making 36.5% of his threes.

The Bucks entered the 2024 free agency period as a team with limited flexibility regarding their roster, as they signed draft picks AJ Johnson and Tyler Smith. With three roster spots to fill via free agency, the team had officially added guard Delon Wright and forward Taurean Prince.

As a club operating under the second apron restriction, they were only able to sign them to minimum contracts.
