Brooks Koepka edged Rory McIlroy for the 2018-19 PGA of America Player of the Year Award, announced on Monday.

It's the second year in a row for Koepka to earn the award.

He and McIlroy were the only two golfers to win three times on tour this season.

Koepka won the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges, PGA Championship and WGC-FedEx St. Jude. McIlroy won the Players Championship, RBC Canadian Open and the Tour Championship.

McIlroy earned his third Vardon Trophy, named in honor of British golfer Harry Vardon. It goes to the pro with the lowest adjusted scoring average over the course of the season. McIlroy won it with a 69.057 average, ahead of Patrick Cantlay's 69.306.

Rory McIlroy, left, and Brooks Koepka were the only two golfers to win three events on the PGA Tour this season.

Koepka, meanwhile, topped the official money list. The $15 million that McIlroy pocketed for winning the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup Playoffs is considered bonus money and not part of the official money list for the season.

The PGA Tour's Player of the Year will be named in September.
