Wake up to threat of cyberattacks from China: Your Say

China denies accusations that it is hacking American businesses. President Obama this week called for improvements to the nation's cyberdefenses. Comments from Facebook:

U.S. and Chinese flags are displayed at an event organized by the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.

What do you expect China to say, "Yeah, we hacked your computers. What are you going to do about it?"

Kasey Deagle

It's kind of embarrassing that we don't know how to defend our systems from hacking.

Is China more technologically advanced than we are now?

Maybe I shouldn't ask that. We've fallen behind in a lot of areas in which we used to lead the world.

Hanno Phoenicia

If American cyberspace is not protected properly, not only China but also plenty of hackers from other countries will attack U.S. websites to get some kind of profit, such as bank account or military data.

This is a big lesson for America to promote cyberspace security.

Thien Hochi

It is laughable for China to claim that because there is no agreed upon international definition of a hacking attack, then it didn't happen. Does anyone believe that China was just browsing?

David Hale

I hope Congress realizes China is not our friend.

I think every adversary of the U.S. knows we could defeat them militarily with our massive weaponry, but we can't beat them in cyberspace unless we treat this as an invasion and take action.

Gilbert Preas

This is why we need to address cybersecurity at the federal level. Despite the fact that Congress can't get past debating about it.

Bruce Mort

Of course China is going to deny it. However, the report from the U.S. cybersecurity company that exposed the hacking says it was connected to China's military. It may be impossible to ever know for sure.
