GOP lawmaker calls out Fox News over Trump interviews with Hannity, Carlson and Levin

Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley on Sunday called out Fox News, arguing that the outlet’s interviews with former President Donald Trump are too focused on the past.

The longtime GOP lawmaker tweeted that he’s watched 3 hours of interviews with Trump on Fox in recent weeks, and “all I hear is history.”

Grassley asked why multiple hosts have “never asked him abt future WHAT TRUMP WANTS TO ACCOMPLISH IN HIS NEXT TERM. Elections are abt the future not the past,” Grassley shared on Twitter, referencing interviews with Trump and hosts Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Mark Levin.

Fox News announced on Tuesday that Carlson will no longer host his high-profile talk show, and his last show was Friday.

Trump in an interview aired on Sunday did tell Levin about his term in the White House, as well as previous relationships and communications with a wide range of public figures, from Oprah Winfrey to former President Richard Nixon and others. The interview comes as Trump’s book, “Letters to Trump,” is set to be published this week.

Poll:Nearly half of Republicans don't want Trump to run for reelection in 2024

But Trump also told the host about his priorities, saying “We want security. We want a great country. We want a strong military. We want borders, and we want good elections and education and housing and everything.”

USA TODAY has reached out to Fox News for comment on Grassley’s tweet.

The senator’s comments come after the news outlet and Dominion Voting Systems agreed to a $787.5 million settlement in a defamation lawsuit. Dominion filed a lawsuit against Fox in 2021 after the network reported on unproven allegations that the voting machine company played a role in rigging the 2020 presidential election between Trump and President Joe Biden.
