Bachelor Nation didn't have to tune into Monday's premiere of Colton Underwood's season for drama. They could've just turned to Instagram.

Josh Murray, the winner of Andi Dorfman's season of "The Bachelorette" in 2014, took to the social media site to apologize for a post he shared and has since deleted. He had posted an image of his proposal to the lawyer-turned-author, covering her face with the purple devil emoji, according to E! News and Entertainment Tonight.

"Haterz will say it’s photoshopped ... hoping the new bachelor comes away with an Angel," Murray captioned the post, according to the outlets. He also reportedly tried to make it clear to followers that his post was a joke, adding: "#isthisnotfunny... #doesanyonehaveasenseofhumorin2019".

A screengrab shared on social media showcased the since-deleted post.

Murray addressed the post in his Instagram Stories, explaining he got "hit up with a lot of messages."

"Apparently my post made some waves, in a bad way," he said. "I thought it was just funny; I thought it was humorous, but apparently it wasn't very humorous."

He added: "I guess I'm not very funny. I was trying to be funny in a halfhearted way, but everybody takes it so seriously, and that's my fault. I should know better. Tsk, tsk."

Murray predicted he would delete the post, as he eventually did.

"I'm probably gonna have to take that down. Getting in trouble for it," he said. "A lot of people, at least my friends are like, 'No, leave it up,' but if it's hurting people's feelings, I don't ever want to do that."

Murray and Dorfman called off their engagement in 2015. Dorfman described Murray as controlling and wrote about their tumultuous relationship in her bombshell memoir, "It's Not Okay: Turning Heartbreak into Happily Never After," which was published the following year. During a stint on "Bachelor in Paradise" which resulted in another unsuccessful engagement, Murray called his ex's book "a fictional story."

USA TODAY has reached out to Dorfman's rep for comment on Murray's Instagram post.
