Rams RB Terrance Ganaway working in sandwich shop

A stint in the NFL can open up a number of job possibilities for players, whether in coaching, media or business ownership.

Or, if you're St. Louis Rams running back Terrance Ganaway, sandwich artistry.

After his rookie season, the Baylor product returned to Waco, Texas, to work at a Jimmy John's. Despite earning $390,000 last year, Ganaway thought it would be prudent to spend 12 hours a week raking in minimum wage -- though he's not sure just how much he's earning.

"My No. 1 job is being an NFL player," Ganaway told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "So don't get it confused as to me working at Jimmy John's has me lazy. ... I know what I have to do. I know how to get in shape and I know what it takes to perform at a high level. Really, Jimmy John's is just to keep me out of trouble in all the down time we have in the offseason."

Ganaway's gig might be an odd selection, but plenty of teams would be satisfied with their players staying busy in a similar fashion. Still, several Baylor patrons have found it jarring to have Robert Griffin III's former running mate serving them when he still has an NFL contract.

"You know, I'm in uniform," Ganaway said. "I've got an apron on, with a visor. I've got gloves. So unless I recognize somebody and I say, 'Hey, what's up man?' They look at me kind of weird and say: 'Why are you working at Jimmy John's?' "

Of course, this could just be the next step of Jimmy John's growing NFL empire -- Drew Brees owns a shop in Metairie, La. Before you know it, we'll have one franchise with Peyton Manning yelling "Cut that meat!" Oh yes, there's a Bravo program in here somewhere.
