School of Education
The School of Education has a long history of educating fine teachers who have dedicated their lives to the profession. You'll find our graduates teaching in middle school, high school and higher education, as well as serving in leadership positions in education, agencies, and businesses committed to academic excellence.
Undergraduate Program
4+1 BA/BS - Master’s of Arts in Teaching: For qualified College of Arts & Sciences undergraduates who have earned at least 30 undergraduate credits.
Master’s Programs
MAT Pre-service: A program for graduate students who are not currently teaching/have no experience.
MAT In-service/On-campus: A program for graduate students who are currently teaching or have prior teaching experience.
MAT In-service/On-site: Fall River, New Bedford, and Southbridge
- Graduate students who are currently employed by Fall River, New Bedford, or Southbridge public schools and who hold Provisional or Initial licensure.
- Graduate students who are currently employed by Fall River or New Bedford public schools who have earned an initial license but need a Master’s degree + 12 credits of content to move to professional licensure.
MAT Professional: Graduate students who are currently employed by any district who have earned an initial license but need a Master’s degree to move to professional licensure (endorsement program).
Doctoral Programs
Educational Leadership & Policy Studies (Ed.D.): Learn to be a leader through teaching, scholarly research, and community engagement*
*Fall 2024 Ed.D. admissions is anticipated to open in the Summer 2024, please click on the link for more information. Educational Leadership Ph.D. admissions remain closed.
STEM Education (PhD): Pursue a world class PhD program in STEM Education with two concentration areas, mathematics education and science education.
Certificate Programs & Stand-Alone Courses
ESL Certificate Program: Available to in-service teachers who would like to add a license outside their current field.
Special Education: Open to all educators who possess an initial license in a core academic field.
Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) course: Open to all educators who need an SEI endorsement to advance or renew licensure.

The College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) offers undergraduate programs in music and art education and a graduate program: Master of Art Education.
