ADMINISTRATIVE INTERNSHIP

Our Administrative Internship is an engaging and rewarding 10-12 week program designed to provide you with real-world project work and in-depth exposure to a busy world-class academic medical center.

ADMINISTRATIVE FELLOWSHIP

If you’re passionate about using your education to make a positive impact on the lives of others, consider the UCLA Health Administrative Fellowships. We offer two distinct and rewarding programs:

Administrative Fellowship:This program will train you in leadership, hospital management, and the administration of all aspects of an academic medical center. You will gain hands-on experience in managing clinical operations, patient care services, and strategic planning within a dynamic healthcare environment.

Administrative Fellowship in Health System Finance:This specialized program focuses on the financial aspects of healthcare administration. You will develop expertise in budgeting, financial analysis, revenue cycle management, and strategic financial planning, preparing you for leadership roles in health system finance.

BIODESIGN FELLOWSHIP

What could be more inspiring than the opportunity to develop transformative, life-changing technologies – from advanced devices to sophisticated digital solutions? That’s what’s possible through the Biodesign Innovation Fellowship. This year-long entrepreneurial program provides you with the chance to partner with a best-in-class interdisciplinary team to prototype and develop technologies to solve challenging healthcare needs. If you have an advanced degree in medicine, nursing, engineering, computer science, design, or business and a passion for changing lives through technology, this could be an incredible opportunity for you.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT SUMMER PROGRAM

Our summer employment programs are aimed at providing college students with real-life healthcare experience. It’s more than a job, it’s a true learning experience. Candidates for the College Student Summer Program must be high school graduates who are currently enrolled in college or current undergraduate students and demonstrate a passion for a career in healthcare. Volunteer experience is preferred.

WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT

The UCLA Health Administrative Internship is hands-on and action-oriented, giving you the knowledge and experience necessary to take on the challenges of tomorrow’s health care field. You will be exposed to every area of healthcare delivery, attend regular meetings with senior leaders and project sponsors, and be involved in a variety of enterprise-wide projects and initiatives. At the end of the program, you’ll be able to showcase the knowledge and skills you’ve gained by presenting your project to UCLA Health senior leadership.

This year, we are excited to offer up to fifteen internship opportunities within key departments across our system. Individual department leaders will serve as your preceptors and guide your project work. More than that, the entire Administrative Intern cohort will learn with one another through a myriad of shadowing experiences, executive-facilitated discussions, and other community-building events.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The UCLA Health Administrative Fellowship is a 12-month project-based and action-oriented program that encourages learning across all aspects of health care delivery. As an Administrative Fellow, you will attend various executive leadership meetings, be involved in an array of enterprise-wide projects and initiatives, and lead different projects for the organization. Richard Azar, Chief Operating Officer of UCLA Health, provides executive sponsorship for the Administrative Fellowship program and preceptorship throughout the fellowship year. During your Administrative Fellowship, you will serve as a member of Richard’s senior operations leadership team, share recurring individualized meeting sessions with him, and experience executive-level decision making throughout the organization in your various meetings and projects.

Drew Weil, Director of Hospital Operations at UCLA Health, also works closely with the Administrative Fellows and Richard Azar to customize the fellowship experience, coordinate experiential learning, and guide the day-to-day aspects of the fellowship.

With our flexible structure, you will get to see and experience all areas of UCLA Health including the hospital system, ambulatory sites, faculty practice group, and shared service departments which compose our organization. Each project will have a sponsor who will work with you on project definition, execution, and dissemination of results.

At the conclusion of your journey at UCLA Health, you will have gained marketable core competencies in four major areas:

  1. Healthcare administration knowledge, including operational planning and system improvement in a hospital, clinic, and academic setting
  2. Interpersonal and communication skills while working with physician and administrative colleagues on various projects
  3. Professionalism and leadership skills
  4. Analytical and critical thinking skills, business planning and financial analysis

As a Finance Administrative Fellow, you will attend various executive leadership meetings, be involved in a range of enterprise-wide financial projects and initiatives, and lead different finance-focused projects for the organization. Richard Azar, Chief Operating Officer and Tammy Wallace, CPA, Chief Financial Officer of UCLA Health, provide executive sponsorship for the Finance Administrative Fellowship program and preceptorship throughout the fellowship year. During your Finance Administrative Fellowship, you will serve as a member of Tammy’s senior finance leadership team, share recurring individualized meeting sessions with her, and experience executive-level financial decision-making throughout the organization in your various meetings and projects.
