It’s a tale of two neighborhoods for Travel + Leisure’s readers’ Denver’s hotel picks. The top three favorites all sit in the Lower Downtown area, lovingly referred to as LoDo. Though it’s the Colorado capital’s oldest neighborhood, the 19th and early 20th century American West buildings mingle with trendy boutiques and eateries, making it one of the city’s most bustling areas. Meanwhile, the other two choices offer a more upscale suburban experience in the comfortably convenient Cherry Creek. Less than five miles southeast of Downtown, the residential area boasts more than 300 stores, 75 eateries, and even 50 spas and salons. The two clusters strike a perfect balance, making Denver a thriving urban destination with a dose of easy living.

How Voting Works

Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Over 186,000 T+L readers completed the 2024 survey. A total of more than 700,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).

Hotels were classified as either resort hotel, city hotel, inn, or safari lodge based on their location and amenities, and they were specifically rated on the criteria below:

  • Rooms/facilities
  • Location
  • Service
  • Food
  • Value

For each characteristic, respondents could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.

What Readers Loved

The Mile High City is constantly stretching for new heights, with independently owned boutique properties stepping into the spotlight. Thoughtful details stand out to our readers, as they noticed top-notch experiences throughout every element of their stays. Moving up a spot to No. 3 from last year, The Maven in the former Windsor Dairy space is now part of the Dairy Block, with 15 shops, 19 restaurants, and seven bars. One reader was impressed by the property’s “beautifully decorated” rooms, noting the “very nice” linens, which “add that extra feel of luxury,” while others relished in it being a “modern property with beautiful views.” Meanwhile, Clayton Hotel & Members Club retained its No. 5 spot from last year and was called a “fantastic experience” because of it being “right in the heart of Cherry Creek.” Others mentioned its “nice clean rooms” and “friendly staff.”

Ever since it opened in 2021, The Rally Hotel in LoDo’s McGregor Square has been a star of the Denver hotel scene, snagging the No. 1 spot in T+L’s 2022 awards and No. 2 in 2023. This year, the 182-room hotel is back on top. Located right across the street from the Colorado Rockies’ Coors Field, baseball is the name of the game here. The Skybridge Rooftop Deck has a plunge pool and bar with a Rockies-themed menu, and the hotel even has its own Rockies Hall of Fame. But perhaps the coolest treat: a Coca-Cola float or ice cream scoop in a Rockies souvenir helmet, served daily during The Rally’s social hour from 4 to 6 p.m. in the lobby.
