We’ve tested hundreds of pieces of luggage so we know a high-quality bag when we see one — and Travel + Leisure editors are in agreement that Dagne Dover produces some of the best travel bags on the market. From fanny packs to duffel bags, most of us have at least one (or five) of the iconic neoprene bags in our rotation of luggage for travel and everyday use, myself included.

Most of the brand’s bags are made with durable neoprene material that looks nice and has water resistant and protective qualities to keep packed items safe while on the go. Whether you’re in search of a backpack for commuting or a duffel bag for weekend getaways, Dagne Dover has you covered with options that earned the editor stamp of approval. Keep reading to see why our editors can’t get enough of Dagne Dover.

Why We Love It
  • It’s easy to switch out the straps to convert the bag to a backpack, duffel, or tote.

What to Consider
  • This is a large bag so it can get heavy quickly.

One of the newest bag additions at Dagne Dover, I think the Lagos Convertible Duffel is worth every penny after testing in the lab and on a weekend trip. The modular design makes it easy to use the bag as a duffel, backpack, or tote so you’re essentially getting three bags in one — what’s not to love? My favorite parts of the bag are the backpack straps, which have their very own pockets so you’ll never have to worry about loose straps hanging off of the duffel. Plus, the crossbody strap is removable, too.

I tested the medium size duffel with a 32-liter capacity and I was able to fit a week’s worth of clothing into the main compartment. While it might get slightly heavy to carry when packed full, I’m grateful for the multiple different ways to carry the bag for maximum comfort.

Why We Love It
  • The bag can expand to add or remove space when needed.

What to Consider
  • It can only fit enough clothes for a few days.

If you’re going away for a few days, we recommend the Landon Carryall bag. Boasting 29 liters of interior space, it’s extremely versatile and large enough that we could fit several outfits, shoes, and accessories for a weekend getaway. The top zipper corners fold down with a button closure so it’s easy to add or take away extra space if you’re using the bag as a commuter or overnight tote. The neoprene material provides a protective cushioning for the packed items (including a 15-inch laptop pocket) and it repels water and stains. We did notice some slight creasing from where the bag folds down but the neoprene is still super durable and long-lasting.

Why We Love It
  • It comes with two removable pouches and has plenty of internal pockets for staying organized.

What to Consider
  • It’s on the smaller size despite being labeled as large.

Traveling with skincare and makeup can be difficult, but this protective neoprene toiletry bag is perfect for not only storing toiletries but ensuring their safety, too. Made with Dagne Dover’s signature neoprene, the material has a natural cushioning and water resistant properties. We tested the large version of the Hunter toiletry bag and loved that it has a spacious 3-liter capacity (though it’s also available in a 2-liter size). The best part is that it comes with two small zippered pouches for storing makeup brushes or jewelry separately from the rest of the packed items. The interior has several elastic loops for securing lipsticks and a large slip pocket.

The Details: 9 x 4.75 x 5.5 inches | 7 ounces | 3 liters | Neoprene

Why We Love It
  • It’s the perfect size for storing valuables without feeling bulky.

What to Consider
  • The waist strap is only 36 inches at the longest length.

We’re doubling-down on how much we love the Ace Fanny Pack since both myself and T+L senior editor, Jasmine Grant, never travel without it. For storing wallets, phones, passports, earbuds, or any other travel essential, this fanny pack is the overall best pick after comparing it to 36 other options on the market. “As someone who still struggles to pack light (working on it) having something like a sling bag or a small purse really helps me keep my most important travel items within close reach,” Grant raved. As we’ve mentioned before, the neoprene material is thick enough to protect more fragile items like sunglasses despite being super lightweight. The material is also super durable, and even when we spilled coffee on the pack, the liquid beaded right off. I personally love wearing this pack as a crossbody bag with the adjustable strap, but it’s also comfortable to wear around the waist, too. The strap only adjusts to 36 inches long, though, so we do wish it was a little longer for body inclusivity purposes.

Why We Love It
  • The backpack is versatile enough to go from the airplane to dinner.

What to Consider
  • It’s not big enough to hold a laptop.

I’ll be the first to admit that I was skeptical about the functionality of a mini backpack. However, after testing this pack myself, I can attest that a mini pack like this sleek one from Dagne Dover is perfect for travelers who love the comfort of a backpack and the size of a purse. Don’t let its small size fool you — this bag has an 8-liter storage capacity so we were able to fit items like an iPad, lightweight sweater, and a water bottle with room to spare. This splurge-worthy backpack looks and feels premium, and I love that it looks elevated enough to replace a purse, so I’ve been able to go from sightseeing all day to a nice restaurant without having to switch bags.

The Details: 13 x 9.5 x 5 inches | 1.1 pounds | 8 liters | Neoprene

Why We Love It
  • It has a 13-inch sleeve to protect and secure laptops.

What to Consider
  • Dust and dirt cling easily to it.

We love the large version of the Dakota Backpack just as much as the small size, but we recommend this version for business travelers or commuters. It’s more than double the size of the mini pack (liter-wise) so it can accommodate more items like a jacket, a laptop up to 13 inches, and other carry-on essentials. Made with Dagne Dover’s classic neoprene material, the laptop sleeve has a layer of cushioning for protection and a sturdy velcro strap to secure it in the pocket. One of our favorite features of this backpack is that it comes with a large zippered bag for shoes so you can also use the pack as an overnight bag if needed.

The Details: 13.25 x 17.5 x 5.25 inches | 2.12 pounds | 20 liters | Neoprene | 13-inch laptop sleeve

Why We Love It
  • It’s lightweight and super comfy to carry, even when packed full.

What to Consider
  • The bag doesn’t have any structure so items can get jostled around at the bottom.

According to our parent-curated packing list for traveling with kiddos, this diaper bag is functional for storing all of mom’s and baby’s essentials while out and about, and it’s stylish, too. We also tested it in our lab and loved that it has tons of pockets on both the inside and outside with spots for wipes, diapers, and bottles that can be reached with one hand. The bag also has special features like stroller clips and a tablet sleeve, plus it comes with a washable zipper bag, changing bag, and small neoprene pouch. We found this backpack to be extremely comfortable and lightweight to carry, but one thing to note is that the neoprene fabric doesn’t have much structure to it, so some items might fall to the bottom of the pack if they aren’t organized.

The Details: 11.75 x 12.75 x 6.5 inches | 3 pounds | 16.39 liters | Neoprene

Why We Love It
  • It is much more stylish than a plain, traditional messenger bag.

What to Consider
  • The laptop pocket can accommodate technology up to 16 inches wide.

Briefcases and messenger bags are notoriously boring — that’s why our knowledgeable commerce testing editor, Jackie Cucco, is a big fan of the refreshingly stylish design of the Oslo Slim Laptop Bag.  “I've been on a quest to find a cool laptop bag that doesn't make me look nerdy, and this one makes me feel like a cool secret agent with all hidden pockets and loops to attach things to,” Cucco gushed. When it comes to commuting into the city for work, she loves all the useful pockets for a phone, laptop, and other everyday essentials. Plus, the shoulder strap has a thick layer of cushioning for superior comfort while wearing the bag for long periods of time.

Our Testing Process

We do a lot of luggage testing at T+L, and Dagne Dover bags almost always earn top-tier scores after rigorous testing. Our team of frequent flier editors are also big fans of the brand’s signature neoprene material combined with the high-quality construction of each bag — though we also love the new Carry-on Edit made with recycled poly fabric that feels just as durable for traveling. From backpacks to toiletry bags, each of us has tested the bags in either our New York City lab or out in the world while traveling. Whether we’ve used each bag for a few months or several years, we continue to update our articles with up-to-date testing notes to ensure we recommend the best of the best Dagne Dover bags.

Tips for Buying a Dagne Dover Bag

Consider intended use

Dagne Dover makes bags for tons of different uses so be sure to research which type of bag suits your needs best. For those in search of a carry-on bag, opt for one of the larger duffels or weekender bags. If you’re looking for a personal item, the backpacks or smaller totes are best for everyday use. Don’t forget about all the accessories the brand carries, too, like crossbody bags, purses, toiletry cases, and organizer pouches.

Review the size options

One of our favorite aspects of Dagne Dover as a brand is that most of their bags come in multiple sizes. Small, medium, and large are typically the size offerings, so there are plenty of options to choose from — such as in the brand's Luggage Edit collection. We recommend looking at the size specifications in the product description and photos to get the best idea of which size works best for you.
