Prince George turns 11 today!

To celebrate, Prince William and Kate Middleton shared a brand-new photograph of their oldest, writing on social media, "Wishing Prince George a very happy 11th birthday today!" The black-and-white snap of George wearing a suit was taken by his mom, Kate.

In line with the birthday pictures released for Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis earlier this year, the Prince and Princess of Wales posted the picture directly on their social media channels, instead of sharing an embargoed image with press the evening before. (The change is likely due to the controversy surrounding the edited image released by Kensington Palace for Mother's Day.) While Kate has taken many of her children's birthday portraits, last year, when George turned 10 years old, professional photographer Millie Pilkington took the photo.

Soon after Prince George was born, he made his public debut on the steps of the Lindo Wing, a private hospital, in the arms of his mother. At the time of his birth, he was third in the line of succession to the British throne, but upon the death of his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, he became second in line, behind his father, Prince William.

Despite being third in line for the throne, Prince George is many years away from being a working royal. He is currently attending Lambrook School in Berkshire, near Adelaide Cottage, his family's home. George and his siblings are currently on summer break, and last week, he joined his father Prince William at the Euros finals to cheer on the England men's national team. Late last month, George also attended Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert with his sister, Princess Charlotte, and their dad. Of meeting the royal kids, Swift's boyfriend Travis Kelce said, "They were an absolute delight to meet."
