The annual ceremonial event honoring King Charles III's birthday saw the former Kate Middleton, her kids — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — and the rest of the royal family appear together on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. This is the Princess of Wales' first public engagement since she revealed in March that she is being treated for cancer.

George, 10, Charlotte, 9, and Louis, 6, rode in a carriage down the Mall with their mother before they watched the king's birthday parade in London. They then gathered at the palace to wave to the crowds and watch a flypast of military aircraft.

Kate's youngest, Louis, is particularly known for his antics at royal appearances. At 2023's Trooping the Colour, Louis made adorable expressions at the crowd, seemingly holding out his fists to imitate a pilot and waving with both hands.

At his grandfather's coronation May 6, 2023, the then 5-year-old appeared to yawn during the formal ceremony. The newly crowned sovereign himself, back in 1953, was notably photographed looking bored and almost forlorn when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was coronated.

The Prince and Princess of Wales haven't appeared in public with their family since their annual Christmas outing in December 2023. The princess underwent abdominal surgery in January and announced that she's undergoing cancer treatment in March.

In her video message, the princess said she aimed to manage her health "privately" for the sake of her young children.

“It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK," she said.

Amid Kate's treatment of preventative chemotherapywhich is ongoing, she said in a statement June 14 — Kensington Palace has continued its tradition of sharing photos of the children on their birthdays.

Charlotte recently turned 9 years old on May 2, and Louis turned 6 April 23. George will turn 11 on July 22.
