Flavor Flav came through on his promise to be the “biggest hype man” for the U.S. women’s water polo team.
The Hall of Fame rapper signed a five-year sponsorship deal as the official hype man for the U.S. women’s and men’s water polo national teams, according to a press release from USA Water Polo shared on July 1.
As part of the sponsorship, Flavor Fav made a financial contribution to the women’s water polo team for the Paris Olympics. His duties as hype man also include making multiple appearances at the team events, including at the 2024 Olympic Games.
On July 27, the U.S. women's water polo team kicked off their quest for a fourth consecutive gold medal with a match against Greece. NBC Olympics reported that Team USA was victorious, winning 15-6.
Flavor Flav attended the match, with NBC Sports sharing a collage of snaps of the rapper in the stands cheering on the team.
He also met up with the First Lady Jill Biden and shared a video of their interaction on Instagram.
“FLAVOR FLAV::: I love all the support Women’s Water Polo is getting,,, ya boy is so appreciative that the First Lady came to the First Game,” he wrote in the caption. “THANK YOU @flotus Dr. Jill Biden for all the support of you and your family."
"FLOTUS x FLAVOR," he also wrote over the video.
Flavor Flav’s involvement with the U.S. women’s and men’s water polo national teams started after Maggie Steffens made a post on Instagram that revealed many Olympians work second or third jobs to achieve their dreams.
The message resonated with Flavor Flav, who commented on the post, “AYYY YOOO,,, as a girl dad and supporter of all women’s sports — imma personally sponsor you my girl,,, whatever you need.
“And imma sponsor the whole team,” he added. “My manager is in touch with your agent and imma use all my relationships and resources to help all y’all even more. That’s a FLAVOR FLAV promise.”
In May, Flavor Flav spoke to NBC Olympics about his decision and said he never expected to sponsor an Olympics team in his life.
“For me doing this, I ain’t gonna lie, to me this is one of the biggest things that I feel that I could have ever done in life, outside of the other accomplishments that I’ve made to music,” he said. “By sponsoring a water polo team and helping these girls out, this is bigger than me winning a Grammy.”
