SHOCKING! Pakistan Hockey Team Receive Rs 8300 As Reward From PHF For Finishing 3rd In Asian Champions Trophy

Following Pakistan's bronze medal win at the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 in China, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) honored the men's team for their achievement as the third-place finishers. Pakistan achieved third place in the tournament by overcoming Korea 5-2 in the bronze-medal match, after a tough penalty shootout defeat to the host team, China, in the semifinals. Meanwhile, their arch-rivals, India, went on to win the title, securing a 1-0 victory over China in the final.

The prize money awarded to was unexpected. The Pakistan men’s hockey team received only 8,300 INR (100 USD or 28,000 PKR). In contrast, Hockey India declared a cash reward of ₹3 lakh for every player and ₹1.5 lakh for each member of the support staff.

In its press release, the PHF mentioned that the monetary award was meant to recognize and motivate the team's efforts throughout the tournament.

In a heartfelt tribute, the PHF dedicated the bronze medal to player Ghazanfar Ali, whose father passed away during the tournament. Despite his personal loss, Ghazanfar chose to remain and compete in the event.

When Pakistan faced India in the tournament's marquee match, the Men in Green delivered a valiant performance against the reigning champions but ultimately fell 2-1 in the league stage.

In the final rankings, Pakistan ended up in second place behind the champions India, having secured two wins, suffered two losses, and drawn one match in their five league stage games.

During the India-China final, Pakistan faced ridicule on social media for displaying Chinese flags to show their support. Despite having been defeated by China in the semifinals, the Pakistani players chose to back China in the summit clash. The broadcaster aired footage of Pakistani players waving Chinese flags right before the final match.

India and Pakistan have been the leading teams in the Asian Champions Trophy. Pakistan claimed victory in two of the first three editions of the tournament in 2012, and 2013. However, they have not advanced to the final since sharing the title with India in 2018, having placed fourth in 2021 and fifth in 2023. During this time, India has surged ahead, with their five titles now surpassing Pakistan's three by two.
