The Position

This is a key role for a technical officer with in physics, mathematics, and experience in noble gas mass spectrometry.

The Technical Officer will be a member of Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES). RSES is Australia’s leading academic research institution for Earth and Marine Sciences, and ranked 11th in the world for Earth and Marine Sciences (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023). The Senior Project Coordinator position will sit within the Department of Material Physics, Research School of Physics. The Senior Project Coordinator will contribute to the conception, execution and review of scientific research and development projects. This position will work closely and build effective and collaborative relationships with project team members, and internal and external project stakeholders.

The Person

We are looking for a qualified Project Coordinator with experience in project management of scientific or research projects, entailing detailed planning and delivery of project proposals and other documents related to project management and delivery. A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to quickly develop productive, professional relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Highly developed organisational skills and effective self-management are key.

	Conduct advanced research in Quantum Information Theory to explore the fundamental limitations and optimisation of quantum communication and computing.

About the Role 

In this role, you will conduct research in Quantum Information Theory, focusing on fundamental limitations in quantum communication and computing. You will develop optimisation-based frameworks to explore trade-offs in complexity, performance, and information leakage, with applications in quantum computing and security. The position involves independent research, publication, and collaboration within the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, with opportunities to attend international conferences and engage in global research collaborations. 

Your responsibilities will include:


	Contribute to teaching, training, scientific mentoring, and supervision of students; 
	Supervise junior research staff in the appointee’s area of expertise; 
	Conduct lectures, tutorials, mark and undertake laboratory duties as required by the Department (if required). 
	Independently plan and carry out research on the nominated research project and work towards completion of the aims of the project; 


Who We Are Looking For 

The ideal candidate has excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and thrives in a collaborative team environment. 

You will also have: 


	A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Theoretical Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or closely related disciplines with a specific focus on quantum systems or quantum information theory; 
	A record of quality research as evidenced by publications on quantum systems or quantum information theory in leading journals and at peer-reviewed conferences commensurate with opportunity; 
	Ability to perform independent research and a commitment to interdisciplinary research; 
	Demonstrated capacity to communicate research concepts to technical and non-technical audiences;
