Provide complete, non-technical, information, that clearly describes the hazard and its potential impact.

EXAMPLE: TSUNAMI WARNING. 20 foot waves approaching Orange County coast from San Clemente to Seal beach. People who do not evacuate low-lying areas could die.

How can I reduce protective action delay?

Provide a complete, clearly worded message that conveys certainty about an event, the severity of the potential impacts, and the susceptibility of the population.

Complete messages include: source, hazard, hazard impact, location, protective actions, expiration time..

How can I increase message attention?

Use ALL CAPS and/or bold letters. On social media, use white space in the text and include a relevant image.
