Who is Kandice Barber and what was her sentence?
SHAMED teacher Kandice Barber was jailed in 2021 after she was found guilty of having sex with a student after grooming him over text.
Here we take a look at the sentence Kandice Barber received.
Who is Kandice Barber?
Kandice Barber is a mum-of-three from Wendover, Buckinghamshire.
She was previously married to partner to Daniel Barber for five years and worked as a teacher.
What was Kandice Barber convicted of?
In 2021, Kandice Barber was convicted of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Barber, who worked at a school in Princes Risborough, Bucks, was 33-years old when she added herself to a teen boy’s Snapchat account in September 2018 and exchanged messages that became sexual.
The disgraced teacher sent him a topless picture and a video of a sexual act before going to a field with him to have sex.
The mum-of-three was branded "beyond despicable" by the judge who put her behind bars, while her 15-year-old victim told of how he failed his GCSEs as a result of the ordeal.
Jailing Barber at Aylesbury crown court in March 2021, Recorder Dhaliwal said: ''It matters not that you are female and the victim male.
"You also sent images, including a topless image of yourself, and a live video in which you were masturbating.
"All of these acts are tantamount to you grooming him and pulling him in, and with significant planning on your part."
The judge continued: "There is no doubt in my mind that you acted in gross breach of trust.
"You took advantage of a child in your care and groomed him for your own sexual gratification.
"You already had authority over him by the nature of your position, and to use threats to bring him down so he would comply with your demands to remain quiet, which is what I find that you did, is in my view beyond despicable."
In a victim impact statement read to the court, the pupil said that he didn't do as well in his exams as a result of the ordeal.
It read: "He was at school and it was through his presence at school that he came into contact with this defendant who was working there in a position of trust.
"He described how he has been caused stress and anxiety having to go through two trials and expressed concern that his family and friends who also were witnesses had suffered.
"He says that his GCSE’s were not as good as they should have been in part as a result of this incident.
“As a result of his poorer than expected results he had to leave the good school he was attending and go to a sixth form college leaving his friends behind.
"His family have since moved to another country hoping for a fresh start, but he had to inform his new school of the retrial.
''The defendant was supposed to help him make good decisions but she helped him make all the wrong decisions."
Barber was cleared of two other counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
What was Kandice Barber's sentence?
Barber was jailed for six years and two months in March 2021.
As well as the sentence, she is barred from working with children and vulnerable adults and is now subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.
In April 2021, Barber's mum said her daughter won't be attempting to overturn her sentence - despite pleading not guilty and putting her young victim through a trial.
Dawn Green told The Sun: "She won't be appealing her sentence."
In July 2023, The Sun revealed how Barber is now working as a gate guard while on temporary prison release.
She has been working at a site building council homes, in Hounslow, West London, since May.
Who is Kandice Barber's former partner Daniel Barber?
Daniel Barber is the ex-husband of Kandice Barber.
He stood by Barber throughout her trial and after her sentencing.
However, the pair are now divorced, with Daniel and his new partner expecting a child this autumn.
Discussing his ex-wife, Daniel told MailOnline: ''Until you're in that position, when it's your wife or your husband and you're living that life, you don't know what you're going to do. She was adamant she was innocent. I loved her and I believed her.
''It wasn't just about sticking by her. Kan had three kids [from two previous relationships]. I'm not their dad, but I was married to their mum, so I wasn't prepared to let them be ripped apart."
Daniel also opened up on the decision to stop supporting Barber, which came when he had a realisation during one of his prison visits.
He explained: ''When I took the kids to visit Kan in prison, she'd be smiling and bubbly and happy. Her hair was done. I'd sit there and feel: 'This is wrong. You're smiling and happy in a place we shouldn't be coming to visit you.'
''I was on antidepressants and sleeping pills because I couldn't shut down. I couldn't process what was happening. I was averaging two hours' sleep a night.
''It was hard for me. Because I was standing by her, people were saying, 'It must be a family thing... he must be doing it as well.''
Barber's former partner also told of how he feared being recognised on the street as the “husband of the teacher who slept with a 15-year-old”.
He added: ''She was in a cell so she didn't have to deal with it. She just had to survive.”
However, it was when Barber phoned him up ''wanting to be romantic'' that things took a turn in their relationship.

Daniel said: ''I didn't want to. She got all upset and it kind of festered from there.
''I began to see Kan differently. I started avoiding her. She would call but I wasn't really picking up. I didn't really want to interact with her. I was still trying to believe she was innocent. She's adamant she is. She's never wavered.''
