Old Forester 117 Series: Warehouse I is bottled at 47.5% ABV

Old Forester released 117 Series: Warehouse I on 5 December in celebration of Repeal Day, which recognises the end of Prohibition in the US each 5 December.

“Our 117 series is all about experimentation, and the characteristics of Warehouse I make it perfect for this innovative series,” master taster Melissa Rift said. “This one-of-a-kind Bourbon is a great way to celebrate the holidays.”

The new whiskey was aged for 11 years and is bottled at 47.5% ABV. The barrels in Warehouse I were heat-cycled since 2013 and chosen from the hottest floors. A 375ml bottle is available for US$65 at the Old Forester distillery, select Kentucky retailers, and in states where shipping is permitted.

On the nose, it shows aromas of dark honey, peanut brittle, and toasted oak alongside hints of spiced pear, stone fruit and clove. The palate shows apricot, orchard fruit, butterscotch and nutmeg.

In July, Old Forester released a rum-finished Bourbon as part of the 117 Series, which launched in 2021. More recently, the Brown Forman-owned brand released its Birthday Bourbon in August. This whiskey was aged for 12 years in Warehouses G and L.

A number of Bourbon producers are highlighting their specific warehouse locations with their releases. Wild Turkey has launched such whiskies under its Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse line, the most recent of which came this past October in the form of Camp Nelson Rickhouse B, bottled at 60.1% ABV.

Meanwhile, in September Jack Daniel’s added a new whiskey to its Coy Hill series, which pulls from higher elevated warehouses.
