ALEXANDRO BERNABEI is set to be on the move once again this summer despite his current loan deal with Brazilian side SC Internacional.

The Argentine left-back, 23, agreed a deal with the Serie A outfit in March as he called time on his Celtic career to return to South America.

Bernabei joined the Hoops from Lanus for £3.5million in June 2022, but he failed to tie down a regular spot at Parkhead.

Greg Taylor has been Brendan Rodgers' preferred option for the position, with Bernabei only making nine appearances in the first team under the Northern Irishman.

The full-back was told he was free to leave the club in January but no club came in for him and he had to wait for his exit.

But he finally landed a move away from Parkhead when the Brazilian side came calling four months ago.

Bernabie agreed a deal until the end of the season but he has only made one appearance for the club since joining.

And now he could cut his time short in Brazil despite the campaign running all the way until December.

That's because he is being lined up for a shock move back to his homeland to join one of his old team's league rivals.

Journalist Matias Martinez claims the left-back is a target for Argentine club Independiente this summer, and they have already opened talks with the Hoops over a potential loan deal.

He will be allowed to depart Brazil in August through an exit clause which was included in the agreement with Rodgers' side earlier this year.

And Independiente are ready to take advantage and trigger that option to bring the defender back to Argentina next month.

Similarly to the Brazil league, the Argentine Primera Division ends in December and the top flight club are keen to bring him to Buenos Aires for six months.

It would see him finish their season in his homeland, where Celtic signed him from two years ago.

The report also suggests that Bernabei is interested in the move after falling out of favour in Brazil.

He wants more games under his belt to gain experience before potentially returning to Celtic next year.
