Frances Grace (Hardy) Sentman of DeSoto.

Frances Grace (Hardy) Sentman passed Feb. 9, 2018 of causes indicative to Alzheimer's disease.

She was born Jan. 18, 1928, to LeRoy and Mary (Schultz) of Iowa City, Iowa. Frances always fondly recalled her years "on the farm."

She prized education and chose a life of service to others as a registered nurse at a local hospital. After marrying Jesse (Jack) Sentman, a U.S. Army veteran, they started a family and moved to Brookfield, where Frances continued to work at a local hospital and after retirement as a Red Cross nurse. She enjoyed volunteering, cooking, crosswords, handicrafts and cats. Frances had a quick wit and a genuinely kind demeanor that resulted in many lifelong friends.

A faithful Christian and devout Catholic, Frances volunteered as her parish nurse at St. Louise De Marillac church in LaGrange Park. She treasured family and loved spending time with her daughter, grandsons and great-grandkids.

She remained in Brookfield until being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and after several bouts with illness, moved to live her grandson's family in DeSoto. It was there Frances finished out her life cared for by her family and surrounded by loved ones.

She is survived by her daughter, Christine Schuler of Henderson, Nev.; grandsons Richard Michael Schuler (Lori Hamelin) of Stickney, Eric Stephen Schuler (Kristie Judd) of DeSoto and Matthew Brian Schuler of Murphysboro; great-grandchildren Gryphon Ayres, Aurora Schuler, Michael Schuler, Connor Schuler, Troy Schuler and Wyatt Schuler; a sister-in-law, Carolyn (Kline) Hardy of Iowa City; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Mary Hardy; sister Esther Hilliker of Centennial, Colo.; brothers Walter (Carolyn) and Howard (Delores) of Iowa City; and her husband, Jesse Sentman.

Inurnment will be at Memorial Gardens in Iowa City with a private family ceremony.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the Red Cross or the Catholic Children's Foundation.

Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
