Synthetic System Benchmarks
We are going to start with synthetic system application benchmarks on this page. Gaming performance will be shown later on. Note that the graphs are arranged from fastest to slowest and contain all the CPUs on each graph for a large comparison. The Ryzen 7 7700X is highlighted in orange.
PCMark 10
PCMark Application Benchmark
In this graph, we are looking at PCMark 10’s Applications Benchmark. This test is very specific, it tests the performance of Microsoft Office, using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and even Edge. We are using Microsoft Office 2021 for these tests. The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X starts off strong in our office testing benchmark, offering more performance than the Ryzen 9 5950X and Intel Core i5-13600K! First, compared to the Ryzen 7 5800X the Ryzen 7 7700X is 22% faster than the last generation CPU. The Ryzen 7 7700X (an 8-core CPU) is 19% faster than the Ryzen 9 5950X (a 16-core CPU) in Microsoft Office. What’s more, we do find the Ryzen 7 7700X 4% faster than the Intel Core i5-13600K. The Ryzen 7 7700X offers 3% more performance over the 7600X in MS Office.
Geekbench 5
In Geekbench 5 Multi-Core benchmark we are specifically testing the multi-core performance differences, and this is where the core and thread count makes a difference. Here we see the Ryzen 7 7700X, which has the same core and thread count as the Ryzen 7 5800X, perform 41% faster than the previous generation CPU with the same core count. That’s a big uplift gen-to-gen. We also once again see the Ryzen 7 7700X outperforming the Ryzen 5 5950X, this time by a smaller 4%. What is interesting about this however is that the Ryzen 7 7700X is an 8-core/16-thread CPU while the 5950X is a 16-core/32-thread CPU. The Ryzen 7 7700X provides a performance uplift of 24% above the 6-core/12-thread Ryzen 5 7600X. The tables turn though, with the higher thread count on the Intel Core i5-13600K, which outperforms the 7700X by 20% in multi-threaded workloads.
In Single-Core performance, we find the Ryzen 7 7700X offers 29% more performance over the Ryzen 7 5800X, so that’s a nice IPC and frequency uplift. The 7700X is also on par with the 7600X single-core performance-wise. Interestingly, in single-core performance, the Ryzen 7 7700X is 9% faster than the Intel Core i5-13600K. The 7700X is faster than any Ryzen 5000 series CPU in single-core performance.
