by Henri Stierlin. Rizzoli, $50.00. an art and architecture are in color and very handsome indeed. The text is predominantly devoted to the various ear lier cultures from which the Aztecs derived their artistic style, for pre-Columbian Central America was a world in which religious and aesthetic concepts passed from one group to another over centuries without losing a basic uniformity. The Aztec were the short-lived last of a long line. In describing this process of development, Mr. Stierlin assumes serious interest on the part of his readers, and offers no crutches, much less needless frills.
