Phillis Levin is the author of six poetry collections, most recently An Anthology of Rain, forthcoming in April 2025. Mr. Memory & Other Poems, her previous collection, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Levin has received fellowships from the Amy Lowell Trust, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The heart at the heart of the room
Hasn’t stopped. When it does,
The room will go on
Being a room, without heart.
The room has a life of its own
Apart from breath, a breath apart.
