Who was Dexter Scott King?

Dexter Scott King was the youngest son of civil rights leaders Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Coretta Scott King.

He was born on January 30, 1961 in Atlanta, Georgia.

In a 2003 interview with CNN, he recalled the moment he heard the news of his father's assassination.

Dexter was just seven years old when the TV news flash announced that MLK Jr had been shot.

He went on to graduate from Moorehouse College with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Dexter served as the president of the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change in 1989.

He resigned four months after assuming the charge but resumed the position in 1994.

Apart from continuing his father’s civil rights work, Dexter was a vegan and an advocate for animal rights.

What was Dexter Scott King's cause of death?

Dexter Scott King passed away on January 22, 2024.

The King Center confirmed that he died after a battle with prostate cancer.

A statement from the center said he passed away peacefully in his home in Malibu, California.

At this time, it is unclear for how long he was fighting the disease.

Was Dexter Scott King married and did he have any children?

Dexter Scott King married his longtime girlfriend Leah Weber in July 2013.

In a statement from the King Center, she said, "He gave it everything and battled this terrible disease until the end. "

"As with all the challenges in his life, he faced this hurdle with bravery and might."

The two did not have children.
