What Sky Channels are available on Sky TV

How do I watch Sky TV channels?

Although you traditionally needed a satellite dish to watch Sky TV, this is no longer necessary and instead you can access channels through Sky Glass or Sky Stream.

What is Sky Glass?

Sky Glass is the name of Sky’s own-brand 4K smart TV, which includes in-built access to Sky TV using WiFi rather than a satellite dish. As with other smart TVs, you’ll also be able to access a range of other subscription-based streaming services including Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ as well as non-subscription-based services such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub.

Currently, Sky Glass is available in three sizes:

  • Small: 43 inches (109cm)
  • Medium: 55 inches (140cm)
  • Large: 65 inches (165cm)

One of the downsides of Sky Glass is that it’s fundamentally a streaming service built into a TV, which is fine if you also need a new TV but not so convenient if you’re happy with the one you already have. As a streaming service, similar to NOW TV, it means you can’t record programmes, although you can watch on demand and catch-up.

What is Sky Stream?

Sky Stream is the latest product in Sky’s arsenal of technology and allows you to watch Sky TV without a satellite dish and without a Sky Glass smart TV. Instead, you can use the device on any brand of smart TV by plugging it in to access Sky.

The Sky Stream box is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. It also comes with voice remote control so you don’t have to scroll through lists of TV shows or channels.

What is a Sky Q box?

Sky Q is a set-top box that works as a hub, giving you access to Sky TV while also letting you record and keep programmes on its internal hard drive. You can record up to six channels while watching a seventh, so you can be confident you won’t miss your favourite shows. You can also watch recordings from your Sky Q box in other rooms if you own a Sky mini box or boxes. If you’re looking to bundle services, Sky offers a combined broadband and TV package

What is Sky Go?

Sky Go is an app that enables you to watch Sky TV on a mobile device such as your smartphone, tablet or laptop. To access Sky Go, you’ll need to have signed up to a Sky package.

What other channels are there on Sky?

In addition to Sky’s core offer, you’ll also be able to pick up international channels including Ahlebait, Akaal and MATV. For sports fans, there are also additional options such as Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2 and GINX EsportsTV. You can also watch the latest headline events and film premieres on Sky’s pay-per-view channel Sky Sports Box Office.

Extra shopping channels include the free-to-view channels such as High Street TV 1, High Street TV 2 and JML Direct.

Sky channel numbers

Sky traditionally groups similar channels together to save you time scrolling through all the options. The most frequently accessed entertainment channels tend to be between 101 and 125. Depending on which platform you’re using, the channels will vary, for example Sky Glass and Sky Stream won’t necessarily have the same channel options as watching through a satellite dish.

What Sky Channels are available on Sky TV

Frequently Asked Questions

Some Sky channels are available through other subscription-based services such as NOW TV. What you can view will depend on the package you buy: NOW TV’s Entertainment bundle, for example, includes Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, Sky News, Sky Documentaries and Sky Comedy.

If you’re a sports fan, the NOW Sports Membership package allows you to watch all 11 Sky Sports channels, including Sky Sports News. If you already have a different NOW TV bundle, you can add on the sports package, currently for an extra £33.99 per month. If you only want to watch certain events, you can also buy day membership, currently £11.99. BT Sport is not included in a NOW TV sports pack but it is available as a separate subscription for around £25 each month.

If you’re a Virgin Media customer, you can access selected Sky channels depending on the pack to which you’ve subscribed. If you have a Virgin Media TV Bigger Bundle, you’ll be able to watch Sky Showcase, Sky Witness, Sky Arts and Sky Sports News.

There are well over 300 channels available to watch on Sky, including access to free-to-air channels, international stations and TV shopping channels.  While this does mean plenty of choice, a number of them will be +1 and HD channels.

If you’re not after specific Sky channels available through subscription only, there are other ways to view Sky options, such as NOW TV.

Some TV channels are on different stations depending on where you live, so it’s worth double checking whether there’s been a change in channel numbers in your area. Sky’s service status page should also let you know if there are local issues stopping signals getting through to you. If this is not the case, make sure your Sky box is switched on and working correctly and that nothing is blocking your satellite dish (unless you’re watching Sky via Wi-Fi on Sky Glass or Sky Stream). For more help or advice, contact Sky directly.

Sky Q is the name of Sky’s hub, which includes a hard drive to record your favourite shows. The channels you get will depend on the packages you sign up for.

Sky’s basic package is Sky Signature, which is available on an 18-month contract and is currently priced at £26 per month with a £20 one-off set-up fee. The Sky Signature bundle offers popular channels including Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, Sky Comedy and Sky Witness. You will also be able to watch MTV, E! and Comedy Central. You can add on extra bundles such as Sky Sports, BT Sport and Sky Cinema for an additional cost.

If you have a Sky Q 2TB or 1TB UHD box, you can record up to six channels while watching another. If you’ve got a smaller 1TB box, you can record three and watch a fourth.

If you want to add regional channels not listed in your current TV guide, you will need to know a few facts about the channel, including: Frequency Polarisation Symbol rate FEC (forward error connection) Once you have these details, you’ll be able to add them when prompted, giving you access to the channel.

If you have Sky Glass, you’ll receive the vast majority of Sky channels, but there are some you won’t be able to access. These include:

  • Forces TV
  • London Live
  • NOW 70s/80s/90s
  • POP, POP Max and Tiny POP
  • FreeSports
  • MUTV
  • BoxNation
  • QVC channels
  • High Street TV channels

If you decide to cancel your Sky subscription, you will still be able to watch free-to-air stations available in your area, including those on Freeview. If you then want to watch a particular series on Sky Atlantic, for example, you can access this with a NOW TV membership, which is contract-free but renews automatically each month.
