I have been looking for this upgrade ever since I made my mind to buy a Jimny. It's been almost a year and I couldn't find anything except those windshield mounted ones and this Durvient one. I'm confident that I can take care of the installation myself and the Durvient would be there if need be. But I'm still in a dilemma to buy this Durvient product just because of one single thing: How dim does it get?

So, I earnestly request you guys to please share your experiences with this mirror; especially how it holds its own when compared to OEM auto-dimming mirrors. This would be of great help. Thanks.

Few pics of setup trial.
Collected the powder coated aluminum cross bars. Got it cut to 140cms length ( though standard thule cross bars for jimny are 135cms and Inno bars are 137 cms). If needed, can reduce the length in future. Need to find rubber or plastic caps for the ends. Aluminium shop guy told to search in SP road.

Tried setting up the room box setup. Since the box is on the narrower side, lot of space left for additional luggage on cross bars. Few pics of the trial process

Maybe have two boxes, if they can be fitted next to each other. Would double the storage and look much better and proportional, I guess.

That would double the weight on the roof. Jimny is box shaped and not really aerodynamic. The car rolls due to its upright stance and also that it's ladder on frame chassis.

I don't think adding more load (& height) on the roof beyond certain acceptable level is a good idea. Personally I wouldn't mount anything on the roof.

Planning to stick to roofbox for trips for more than a week. Rest of the times it will not be mounted. Since it is narrow and space left can be used to mount fuel cans, spare tyre etc.

Roof load limit is 35 kgs as per manual. I will be keeping bulky items like clothes and shoes in the roof box. So it should not be an issue.

I am glad that you got an October manufactured vehicle. If I may ask you, what was the total discount offered by the dealer for your new Jimny. As I gather from multiple dealers here in Goa, the discount since last 2 months is Rs. 80,000 Direct discount and Rs 1.5 L Maruti Finance discount amounting to a total of Rs 2.30 L discount for the Alpha variant. (For Zeta variant the total discount is Rs 1.75 L). Did you get a better discount or it's the same that I have been offered since last 2 months?
I believe Swami has already answered this query of yours.

Was there any particular reason for you not taking the May month stock as mechanically the vehicle is same as the new stock.
As there was no stock available of any White Manual at the dealership level in my region hence had to be ordered at the factory & it came in freshly (October) manufactured.

I bought the Zeta specifically because I wanted a car that has a proper old school vibe to it, I love the slow steering, long gear changes, the manual knobs for AC, the black flappy door handles and mirrors, conventional key to start the car, bright orange indicators on the fender, the lovely analog instrument cluster inspired from the Gypsy and most improtantly the lovely black steelies. The Jimny perfectly complements my daily driver, a Slavia 1.5TSI DSG.

I too plan to keep my Jimny stock, just getting one cosmetic change (Classic Suzuki logo grille) and have already upgraded the tyres to Yokohama Geolandar LT 215/75R15 OWL within 24 hours of getting the car. They are good, a touch bouncier than stock Duellers but definitely improve the offroad capability. Apart from this I am getting the radial arm mount guards from SwastikFabs for now. Will take the Jimny off-roading after completing 1000kms.

The Jimny truly has a split personality, it looks tiny on the outside but the experience from the driver's seat is a big contrast, it feels like a proper truck and you sit pretty high up on par with the Thar and Fortuner. The all round visibilty is incredible. This is a car that makes you relax and slow down to enjoy your time behind the wheel. This is a car with a big character and I look forward to getting to know more about the Jimny as I clock more kilometers.

Mine is a September manufactured Jimny, even I thought I would be getting an older car due to stocks but was pretty surprised.
Thanks for your wishes & congratulations to you as well. I agree with your observations about Jimny's personality as well. I too had a considered going in for the base model as it had some tasty black steelies but somehow ended up with the Alpha.

Also, my thread is now live where I have shared a lot more details about the ownership so far & my experience buying the Jimny without a Test Drive or ever experiencing or sitting inside one;

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Spent a very enjoyable sunday morning doing what I love the most. Killing time tinkering on the car. What made it even special is that I had a few essential modifications and upgrades planned for the car and those parcels had all reached just in time.
Missus being busy at a wedding ceremony, I had all the time in the world to get my ratchets and spanners out. I had the following in my to do list.

1. Putting a cover on the key fob.
2. Screen protector for the infotainment system.
3. GFX mats.
4. LED bulb for the boot light.
5. Topping up washer fluid.
6. Installation of M-Tek Matrix side steps.

The first five things were done in a jiffy. I grossly underestimated the complexity of side step Installation. It took a real test of my DIY skills and patience.

But before getting to the technical part; I would like to share the purchase experience of those steps and the GFX mats. I got them from a store called Dolphinaccessories.com.
The best part is that I got to bargain hard and get some considerable discounts. The trick here is to contact the seller directly over mail and watsapp. Most of these ecom sites have the watsapp feature enabled in them. I shared few screen shots and youtube links of similar products which were priced lower than their merchandise. They immediately created special discount coupons and gave a total of Rs 1347/- off.

Now to get on with the installation, I had a tough time following the printed instruction manual. I referred youtube videos and got to work on my own. I will attach a few pictures for clarity. I must confess that it is an entirely different world once you are under the car.
The first clamp took a lot of time to be installed since I was trying to figure out ways to get the job done without any casualties. It is a new car after all. Even a tiny scratch or a creak of a bolt wrenched my heart.
However, the battle was finally won after a couple of hours of rolling under the car. I should have had the underbody washed before I started the project. I was covered in dust and loose sand by the time I was done. Protective eyewear would have helped a lot.
Anyways, the steps have really accentuated the looks of the car now. Ingress and egress have become so much easier now. My five year old kiddo could climb into the car all by himself. Earlier he needed someone to pull him in. The steps are pretty solid and can easily take my weight. Cleaning the roof now has become so easy. A must needed item for the Jimny. Maruti should provide this as an accessory instead of the useless plastic tid bits.

BREMO BRAKE KIT installed on the Jimny Re: Maruti Jimny Review

My experience with the Jimny in the last 16 months of ownership has been very good barring some niggles with some areas that need aftermarket improvement braking being one of them.

There was also many reported instances of a steering wobble in Jimnys that had crossed mileages of 10K Kms, this happens while braking between speeds of 60 Kmph and 80 Kmph. Did not want any of this so thought that replacing the brakes pads and the rotors would be a permanent fix. Am not so sure of the quality of both the MSIL brake pads and rotors as well because of this very reason.

Shortlisted some brake pads and technically was not sure if they would fit or not. Did some more digging in and decided that maybe upgrading the entire set from Brembo i.e., Front Brake Pads with Rotors and the Rear Brake Shoes would be a better idea instead on doing this piecemeal.

This is basically more of an OE upgrade rather than a huge performance upgrade but does give a performance and braking boost.

What makes Brembo, different and better than OEM brakes is their heat dissipation/cooling capability especially during sustained braking and accelerating scenarios. Brembo systems are engineered to handle higher temperatures, which is crucial during intense driving situations, such as off-roading or spirited driving on winding roads. The ability to manage heat effectively means that Brembo brakes are less likely to experience brake fade, a common issue with standard OE brakes in the Jimny under heavy use. Brembo brake pads are made from tailor made advanced materials and engineering thus technically making them in my opinion much better than the OE ones provided. Longevity in the Brembo Rotors, Brake Pads and Rear Shoes will be much more as well compared to OE.

A special word of thanks to BHPian @Sankar without whose valuable inputs this would never have happened.

The Brembo Complete Kit:

Brembo Brake Pad Prime :

Brembo Rear Brake Shoes : THESE DO NOT FIT
Maruti Jimny Review-rear-brake-shoes.jpg

Jimny abroad comes with the brakes shoes without a metal plate riveted on which is there in the 5 Door made in India Jimny - a comparative with the Indian Brake Shoes and the ones abroad:
Maruti Jimny Review-rear-shoes-issue.jpg

Installation : Straightforward replacement of the brakes and rotors. Got the upgraded kingpin that addresses the wobbling issue also installed.
Maruti Jimny Review-brembos-installed.jpg

The Upgraded kingpin:The steering wheel now feels lighter with the upgraded king pin installed.
Maruti Jimny Review-replacement-kingpin.jpg

The upgraded experience: Brembos are excellent. Compared to the earlier braking experience where the braking was sub par the brakes now feel extremely linear and stops a lot faster. Cannot quantify as have not done a brake test with the OE pads and discs and shoes installed. Overall a worthy upgrade.

These were purchased from City Motors in Mumbai who is one of the authorized Brembo dealers in India. Those wanting to buy these can contact the owner Utsav @ 97023 10088

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Before I could even write a proper initial impressions and the delivery experience post, started seeing a "Charge Warning Light" - Red battery icon, on the instrument cluster, yesterday morning at around 9 AM. Just like the coolant temperature light, which goes away after the operational temperatures are achieved, I thought this will also go away once the car has warmed up. Moving on, for the next 10 km, this did not go away. I read the owner's manual and assumed it could be an error related to faulty battery / charging system. I was worried the car would not start if shutdown, so i also disabled ISS, and drove straight to the workshop.

Decided to visit the dealership (has Nexa authorised workshop) - Goyal Motors Pvt Ltd at TaraDevi, Shimla.

Initial inspections with the OBD Scanners at the dealership did not even show a fault code! Why?

Testing with the ammeter showed regular voltage across the battery terminals. With Engine ON, they disconnected the battery and the car shutdown - as per the SA, this should not have happened. So now, after checking all the fuses and electric points in different usecases, it was decided to try a "test" alternator from a lender car with a similar part name for the alternator. This alternator did not show the warning icon on the dashboard. Now the car is lying at the worskhop, and a new alternator is ordered, to be replaced in warranty. What makes me wonder is how can this happen on a brand new car (15 day old, just ~430 KM) ?

The workshop is also seeing this for the first time?

Pics of the older ("faulty") alternator and the warning lights, along with the owner's manual section.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I am in deep conundrum from one year regarding the purchase of a new vehicle. I currently own a 2017 Celerio (ZXi auto) with 78000 Km on odometer but it is running absolutely fine. Now, my wife also wants a vehicle for office commuting and this is where the itch for a new vehicle started. I am thinking of giving her my Celerio (as she is a new driver) and upgrading to new vehicle myself.
Requirement: Strictly Automatic with no DCTs, DSG because of unreliability factor associated with them and budget not exceeding 15 Lakh. By the way we are a family of 4 with 2 kids aged 6 and 8. My daily office commute in total is about 15 Km and this is where the most running of the new vehicle would be.

As of now, I am thinking about three options in order of their preference:

1. Jimny: From the time it was launched, I have been following it on this forum and I somehow missed the train in July when Maruti offered great discounts. I am just waiting for the discounts to reach that scale which will make it a strong contender. I live in Kashmir which means I can use jimmy to its full the potential in all kinds of terrains. That is one more point in favour of Jimny.

2. Skoda Kylaq: Great value for money with that GEM of an engine coupled with a reliable TC and all the needed features. Somehow that notion of Germans with high maintenance costs and poor AC is holding me back.

3. A couple of years used Creta SXO IVT with al bells and whistles as the new ones are exorbitantly priced.

Any recommendation from the members will be highly appreciated.

You are the ONLY person who is qualified and allowed to buy the Jimny.

Please go out and start test driving the car, and also make a full list of resto mods you want when you get it. Year end discounts should come up very shortly, so test drive, identify the dealers you like and be on the top of their contact book!

Yes, qualified in terms of the terrain but not so experience wise. Anyway, thank you for your kind response. I have already taken a "very short' test drive of Jimny with manual transmission and I found it to be fine (power wise). Now I will check out the Auto and go for a longish test drive to finalize the deal. I guess you are not in favor of Kylaq or Creta.

Yes to the Jimny if one lives in the Himalayan background, with snow roads for company, camping life on the weekends, and needs parts reliability and warranty peace of mind over everything else.

Yes to the other 2 cars if one lives in a big metro, a need to announce a relative arrival in life at the apartment/office parking lot (usually a factor driven by some wives), and do a lot of highway miles where speed and comfort are important factors.

You seem like a guy who buys a car and lives with it for a long time. Get the Jimny Automatic so thats one thing that you are less bothered about when you're 10 years older.

Yes, I don't let go of my vehicles easily and I do sometimes talk to my vehicle as well (sounds insane). I still miss my Ford Figo TDCI purchased in 2016, but had to let it go as I developed some back issues and could not handle its hard clutch. It was also purchased after reading many pages of team-bhp thread and it was the best decision ever and no vehicle has ever come close to it.

You are true about service and maintenance part of Marutis. I have good connections in Maruti and usually call them to my home to get my Celerio serviced. So be it, I will be going for a Jimmy and keep it for its full life and If I feel the need for bigger vehicle, I will be purchasing a 2nd hand one for high way runs for 7-9 Lakh. In the end I will have a brand new robust 4x4 vehicle to satisfy my adventurous life (although little) and a highway vehicle for a grand total of 20 Lakh (the cost of new Creta – which I had planned at the start) which I feel is a win-win situation.

I am thinking to go with Red/Black although I feel darker tones suit Jimny. Any color recommendations?
