What a great guitar. Love the bound fretboard. Just had it set up, frets leveled and polished, and it plays like a dream. Picked it up for $650 a couple months ago. A few minor nicks and dings here and there, nothing major.

$650 is a good deal. A Special is one of the best no-frills, do anything guitars with pickups that are full, but with midrange bite. Does yours have a full, 50s-style neck profile?

I had two LP 55 models that I played everything on. The 55 was basically a 'player's' special that wasn't vintage accurate.

Not sure of the specific model name, but pretty sure it is called a Les Paul Special--I don't think it's a Tribute? But maybe so?

Interestingly, I actually prefer a wraparound bridge! But this one is just fine. Action is low low low, just how I like it.

I think the neck may be 60s--it's not 'baseball bat' thick.

Wow how did you score that for $650? New ones are listed for $1,799!
Also, I notice some models have a wraparound bridge - is that the "Tribute"? Yours has the separate bridge and tailpiece, which is much preferred.

wow just checked that out at guitarcenter.com, you're right! New ones do have the wraparound which I really like, but for about a grand less and a few scratches, yeah I'm fine with my 10-year old model!

Nice. My first Gibson was an early 2000s Special. I bought it around 2010 for $400 from Guitar Center, it was neat up pretty good but still played ok and sounded great. I sold it for $600 a few years later so yours at $650 given condition and inflation is a good score.

$650 is a steal. I was looking for a LP special like that late last year and ended up buying a ‘65 Melody Maker neck and body and putting it together instead because the prices were so high on the LP specials.

These are known as a ‘Les Paul Junior Special’. I have a 2012 with the sunburst finish.

It looks like rosewood to me? But maybe not?
Though the purists sniff, I don’t really see any difference. If anything, if it’s maple, it won’t need oiling.

It truly is a terrific score. A year ago, these were selling on Reverb for CDN$1200.

I got mine in 2012 on a trade for a MIJ ES-335 copy, which had been lingering in the classifieds for months at a truly reasonable $500. I think I did well, too.
