Sabrina Ionescu and her Phantom BC debuted in the first season of the 3-on-3 league Unrivaled, going against Laces in the third game of the competition. The reigning WNBA champion tried to lead her squad to the first win of the season against a team set to ruin their plans and drag them off the court from the get-go.
Ionescu was part of the starting three alongside Satou Sabally and Brittney Griner. She scored the first three points of her team with a long shot, but it wasn't enough as Laces took an 11-5 lead in the first half of the first quarter. Ionescu focused on being more of a playmaker, racking up some assists and rebounds but also making sure she didn't forget about scoring.
Even so, Phantom finished the first quarter down 23-11, struggling to keep up with the fast-paced Laces.
Despite a tremendous showing from Sabrina Ionescu in the first quarter, Phantom had a hard time keeping up with their opponents. She started for Phantom to start the second quarter, but it didn't move the needle as her team expected. Ionescu couldn't do anything as Laces took a 40-20 lead with 1:55 left on the Clock.
The guard missed several 3-point shots while the rest of the team looked helpless against their opponents. The Laces entered halftime with a commanding 50-29 lead, absolutely dominating Phantom in the first half.
The Laces continued their dominance over Phantom, scoring 24 points against 13 from their opponents. Ionescu only scored three points as her shooting woes continued. With the winning score set at 85, Phantom had to climb an uphill battle.
There was nothing Sabrina Ionescu and her teammates could do to stop the Laces. The fourth quarter was, once again, dominated by Lacs. They secured the 86-48 win behind a 28-point effort by Kayla McBride.
As for Ionescu, she only managed to 17 points on 6-from-17 from the field.

Sabrina Ionescu was the last player to join Unrivaled
Sabrina Ionescu claimed the 36th and final spot on Unrivaled's roster, becoming the sixth member of Phantom. She struggled with an injury and underwent surgery in December before being cleared to play in this tournament. It's unclear if this issue came back to haunt her, but her numbers today left a lot to be desired.
Phantom will return to action on Monday, as they take Vinyl at 8:30 p.m. ET.
