• Google Chrome OS is Linux based OS
• Google Chrome is an open source, lightweight/Weightless
OS.(Weightlessness in Google's terms, means never having to wait for
the web)
• It is based on the concept of “cloud computing” and different
programs of the internet

What Is Chrome OS
• Google Chrome OS is an open source operating system designed
by Google to work exclusively with web applications .
• Released in second half of 2010
• The operating system is based on Linux and will run only on
specifically designed hardware.
• Inbuilt features of antivirus &antimalware
• Chrome OS is extension of Android

History
• Google announced Chrome OS on July 7, 2009, describing it as an operating
system in which both applications and user data reside in the Cloud. To ascertain
marketing requirements, the company relied on informal metrics, including
monitoring the usage patterns of some 200 Chrome OS machines used by Google
employees.
• On November 19, 2009, Google released Chrome OS's Source Code as
the Chromium OS project.
• At a November 19, 2009 news conference, Sundar Pichai, at the time Google's
vice president, At the conference, the operating system booted up in seven
seconds.
• The launch date for retail hardware featuring Chrome OS was delayed from late
2010 to June 15, 2011.
• Jeff Nelson, says he created a new operating system that led to the Chrome OS,
but this is disputed by Antoine Labour.

• Forget the slow boot-ups

• Everything is on the web , no application installation

Disadvantages
• Am I sending sensitive information for hackers to sniff?
• Hardware compatibility may be an issue
• No Internet Connection=Not very useful
• Managing Files or Moving files to cloud is as not easy as Linux OS
• Incompatible with many types of peripherals and upgrades(CD/DVD &
external hard drive not supported)
• Does not support Microsoft Office
• Virtual Private Network(VPN) software can not be used for secured
data transfer

Conclusion
• Google Chrome OS is an upcoming Linux based, open source
operating system designed by Google for to work with web
applications.
• Designers are considering a reduced window management scheme .
• This OS is going to be cheap, flexible and chrome OS and Android will
merge. so, everyone will be using this OS within 3 years.
• As long as Google continues to support the project, Chrome OS will
keep improving. One day, and perhaps sooner rather than later, it
might even be ready for all.
