Rite Aid, the embattled pharmacy chain that has shuttered more than 500 stores in the past several months, has announced that it will soon close eight more stores in the United States.
The company, which officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October, citing slumping sales and a Justice Department complaint alleging excessive fills of opioids as the cause, has been gradually adding to its list of closures on a month-by-month basis.
In a bankruptcy filing on Monday, Rite Aid announced eight more store closures — all located in Ohio and Michigan.
Rite Aid notes that the decision to close a store relates largely to store performance and lease and rent considerations.
The eight closings announced on Monday include:
- 4598 State St., Saginaw, Michigan
- 1104 E. Front St., Traverse City, Michigan
- 2583 Grove Ave., Lorain, Ohio
- 4914 Youngstown-Poland Road, Youngstown, Ohio
- 2980 Packard St., Ann Arbor, Michigan
- 431 W. Lincoln Highway, Ionia, Michigan
- 218 W. Main St., Flushing, Michigan
- 130 S. Detroit, Kenton, Ohio
One of Staten Island’s locations — 2271 Richmond Ave. in the Heartland Village Shopping Center, New Springville — officially closed its doors in May, leaving the borough with just one remaining store.
That store is located at 43-68 Amboy Rd., in Eltingville.
