Kate Middleton Shops for Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s Halloween Costumes at the Supermarket

The Duchess of Cambridge casually popped into a Sainsbury’s in the Hardwick Industrial Estate in Norfolk, England, this week. Just what was the royal mom doing in what is basically the U.K.’s answer to Target? Buying Halloween costumes, of course.

According to one onlooker, Kathy Whittaker, Kate Middleton wandered into the store in the late morning on Thursday with a “brawny six-foot bodyguard” in tow, as the Mirror reports. She was reportedly dressed in a black polo shirt and black trousers, so perhaps she was attempting an incognito Sainsbury’s run — but you can see how that worked out for her.

The onlooker said another Sainsbury aficionado had told her the Cambridge Dutchess was in the store. “Another shopper said that Kate was in the shop near the clothing and pointed where she was to me,” she told the Mirror. “I just couldn’t believe it.”

But wait: It gets better. Kate had the kids in tow. “She was with Charlotte and George looking at Halloween outfits but her bodyguard was kind of watching people with phones and telling them no pictures,” the shopper said. “I didn’t see what she actually bought. The lady that told me she was there had children with her and she said Kate was asking her children what they were going to be for Halloween. I think she bought some Halloween bits for her kids but I don’t know what.”

So, there you have it, folks. Kate Middleton shops at Sainsbury’s, proving that she’s just a chill mom, trying to score a deal on this years’ Halloween costumes.

This particular Sainsbury’s is a 30-minute drive from Anmer Hall, Kate and Prince William’s country house. Would Kate really drive (or, more likely, be driven) 30 minutes to a supermarket to buy Halloween costumes herself? Perhaps — she does love to appear down-to-earth. Then again, the British press can be a bit … fanciful. We suppose we’ll find out soon enough — Halloween is around the corner. Will the kids be wearing costumes from Sainsbury’s?
