Physics 20 Course Outline

2019 – 2020 at Duchess School

Teacher: Mr. Jeff Scott

Class Schedule: Blocks 3 & 4 (10:01am –11:27am)

General Objectives

 develop positive attitudes that support the responsible acquisition and application of knowledge related
to science and technology
 show interest in science-related questions and issues and confidently pursue personal interests and
career possibilities within science-related fields
 appreciate that scientific understanding evolves from the interaction of ideas involving people with
different views and backgrounds
 seek and apply evidence when evaluating alternative approaches to investigations, problems and issues
 work collaboratively in planning and carrying out investigations and in generating and evaluating ideas
 show concern for safety in planning, carrying out and reviewing activities, referring to the Workplace
Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and consumer product labelling information

Class Expectations:

1. You are expected to:

 attend class regularly and punctually
 bring all necessary materials to class
 maintain a set of course notes/examples in an organized fashion
 use class time productively
 show respect to your classmates and teacher
2. When you are absent, you are responsible for any missed lessons and assignments:
 If a test is missed, the student is to write the test on the day of return unless other arrange-
ments have been made with the teacher.
3. Cell phones are not permitted in class. Students are expected to leave cell phones either at home,
locked in their locker, or in the phone basket at the front of the class.
4. Rewrites of unit exams are allowed under the condition that you demonstrate your dedication to im-
proving your understanding of course concepts. This will often be in the form of an additional assign-
ment that must be fully completed before a rewrite is allowed.

Resources

Throughout the course, you will need:

- Physics – Pearson Textbook (class set to be shared)
- Pencils, eraser, ruler, binder, lined paper, graph paper
- Calculator (Graphing calculators are allowed)
- Highlighters, coloured pencils, and binder dividers are optional
but highly recommended
