The Royal Commonwealth Society is proud to announce the launch of Write Around the World, a new digital literacy programme developed in partnership with the Royal Society of Literature (RSL).

This programme explores six genres of literature via video workshops, each led by an RSL Fellow. Through this series of interactive and engaging modules, hosted by Fellows of the Royal Society of Literature, Write Around the World will introduce young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, under-represented demographics and remote communities to the idea of creative writing, while also developing key literacy skills that can increase educational attainment.

Over the course of the programme, young people will hone their skills in journalism, poetry, letter writing, short story writing, scriptwriting, and essay writing.

The full programme includes modules from Imtiaz Dharker on poetry; Kerry Hudson on letter writing; Nikita Lalwani with scriptwriting; Blake Morrison on journalism; Susheila Nasta with essay writing; and Irenosen Okojie for short-story writing. Each module includes a short video and task, which can be completed in any order, either in class or independently.
By the end of the programme, participants will not only be equipped with the tools to express themselves in a way that can generate the changes they wish to see in the world, but they will also have developed a writing piece to submit to The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition.
