Critics Consensus

Man of Steel's exhilarating action and spectacle can't fully overcome its detours into generic blockbuster territory.

Jason Bailey Flavorwire Snyder is an adrenaline junkie forever jonesing for a fix; he does less building to the action beats than backing each one into the next. Jun 21, 2016 Full Review Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com Clark's multiple father-and-son tales are beautifully realized and it's a very fun movie to watch. However, the romance is shallow. Rated: B+ Apr 23, 2015 Full Review Matt Singer The Dissolve A gritty, realistic story shot by a director whose instincts constantly push him away from grit and realism, and into flash and fantasy. Rated: 2/5 Jun 26, 2014 Full Review Tania Hussain The Hudsucker Man of Steel is a genre story without the cartoon-like elements seen in past superhero films, presenting a gritty, torment-ridden reboot of the character’s origin story with intense emotional genuineness. Jul 28, 2024 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh While it might set itself apart from many superhero movies that came before it, it seems to do so arbitrarily as opposed to exploring those ideas in any organic way. Rated: 2/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) Man of Steel was Snyder’s triumphant debut with Superman, and it’s still a thrilling example of why Clark Kent can be an engaging lead for one of these movies despite the speculation for the opposite. Thomas R A flawed yet entertaining superhero flick Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/02/24 Full Review Izzy M Mean reason why I watch Man of Steel Zack Snyder’s version Superman to made fun of NORAD or put them in slander meme for no reason while watching Sym Bionic Titan. Now I have bad habits to post side character quotes from the movie. The movie is meh actually I really don’t care superhero movies or stuff.geez, I need to stop watching the movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/01/24 Full Review Michael T We have here, what probably is the BEST Superman adaptation ever. You can feel it so real, as an alien paria, living among us fighting our cruel society and yet showing strength and compassion for us. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/28/24 Full Review Audience Member to me Henry plays the best Superman,,ive seen other actors do Superman ,but , henry does it very well too bad he wont continue the role ,,,even when he did the Witcher ,oh man ,,,, the guy is good at what he does . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review Sabita O Even in 2024 It's still Top-tier 🔥🔥 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/14/24 Full Review Tyler S I did have a good time watching this one. This is the exact definition of how I pictured a modern day Superman remake. Henry Cavill did excellent in this role. Tons of action, excitement, and high pressure moments. The only issues I've seen, which I've also seen in WW and WW84 is that the script writing just either feels super lazy or oversimplified. These movies so far have also taken an interesting route in going for high pressure action and little grounded issues. Hopefully I can see more of that in the coming DCEU projects. It is just really hard to compare these films to the Marvel films I've come to love. There's just some huge difference between the two franchises that I just can't figure out yet. But overall, I still enjoyed this film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/05/24 Full Review Read all reviews
