Critics Consensus

Jurassic World can't match the original for sheer inventiveness and impact, but it works in its own right as an entertaining -- and visually dazzling -- popcorn thriller.

Aramide Tinubu Shadow and Act Jurassic World is a visually striking thrill, packed with enough adventure to leave even the most cynical 21st century viewer in awe. Though the storyline itself brings little originality, its cheesiness is oddly endearing. Apr 12, 2017 Full Review Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine The whole thing is an elaborate fantasy, so it seems a bit churlish to say, "that's not believable!" But even a film like this needs some internal logic. Rated: 2/4 Jun 10, 2016 Full Review Alex Abad-Santos Vox Jurassic World is the reason summer movies exist. Rated: 4/5 Oct 20, 2015 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Just as the dictionary definition of "spectacle" states, the blockbuster is unusual, notable, and entertaining in an eye-catching, dramatic, and very public way. It is big, loud, and dumb, but, hot damn, it sure is fun. Rated: 4/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... a lot of fun, part mindless two-hour theme park ride, part self-aware sequel where supposedly smart people make a cascade of bad decisions. Doesn't over-do it, and great storyline. And the villain dinosaur was awesome and realistic. Deserves an 83% Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/06/25 Full Review Birithivy Y Jurassic World - 9/10. Jurassic World returns us to the world of Jurassic Park after a 14 year gap between the last film. Returning the setting to Isla Nublar, the island from the first film, the movie also returns itself back to its roots with a similar idea to the original film. This time, however, the park is functional and has been for a while, with tourists coming in round the clock. To help bring more guests, they introduce the idea of creating a genetically modified dino, which ends up running havoc throughout the island. Along with all of this, there is a subplot of using the dinos for possibly other reasons (mainly, for weaponry). I love the JP franchise and as a fan, I loved Jurassic World. It follows in tradition, but also makes its own path with extravagance. The film smartly comments on commercialization and the moral dilemma of playing god, just like the previous films did. Colin Trevorrow does a great job in rebooting the franchise for modern day audiences, while also connecting with audiences of the originals. He expertly inserts nostalgia, but not to the point of overshadowing the big picture ideas he has for this new trilogy. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are great as the new focal points for the franchise, infusing their own style and swagger into a franchise already filled with iconic characters. And for Michael Giacchino, his music is wonderful and really creates its own twist and furthers the themes created by the legend John Williams. Overall, the movie isn't better than the first film, but its still a fun movie and a smartly done summer blockbuster. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/28/24 Full Review Read all reviews
